  Hong Kong is not just another Port of Call for Doha round negotiations, it is our best opportunity to bring the round to conclusion by the end of 2006.

 We are now down to days, ... If something isn't put together by the end of this month, then I do really believe that this Doha Round is in real jeopardy. Certainly the Hong Kong meeting would be in jeopardy.

 We should try to do even more than simply survive at Hong Kong. What we want from Hong Kong is to create the best platform for final negotiations in 2006.

 With only seven weeks left until the Hong Kong ministerial conference in December, we have just about run out of time, ... If Hong Kong fails there is little chance of completing negotiations in 2006, putting the future of multilateral trade reform at serious risk for the short term.

 The basic objective is to reach by Hong Kong a result that takes us two-thirds of the way to concluding the round in 2006.

 If 2005 was a year of important progress on aid and debt relief, 2006 must be the year of trade, ... If we are to conclude the Doha negotiations by the end of next year we need to make real progress at the WTO talks in Hong Kong in December.
