Near-term, in a market environment in which investors are fleeing to quality, its stock could continue to do well. Our analysis, however, suggests that the company's long-term earnings growth is likely to be slower than the 15 percent to 20 percent consensus.

There have been few negative pre-announcements and a number of positive ones, ... Third-quarter earnings should be strong and that should continue to support the stock market. But there will always be pullbacks and volatility. There's always the potential for people to sell the news and you may see that in the short term.

Although the results were solid, and we expect the stock to respond favorably in the near term, we continue to rate the shares 'neutral' due to long-term concerns over IBM's server businesses and overall IT spending.  For now, we're staying with the neutral intermediate-term rating on AMD's stock until we see how the company weathers the Northwood launch. We are still long-term strong buyers of the stock -- even if AMD suffers at the hands of Northwood it will not plunge as deeply into loss as it has during past Intel offensives.

We are troubled by the continuing decrease of the value of our investments in the company and are pleased that management and the board of directors are considering steps to stem the loss of shareholder value, ... However, as long-term investors, we want to be assured that the options are being considered to promote growth and stability in the long-term, and not simply to produce a short-term boost in the stock price.

While Dell may be under pressure on short-term earnings guidance, we believe the company has a more attractive long-term strategy that can generate 25-percent-plus earnings growth.

I do think (stock) prices are rebounding and I do think it will be a long-term solid investment choice for investors. I think the regulatory environment around pricing will evolve, but it will be a solid industry because it has to be.

We've talked over the past couple of months about a company like Dell and WorldCom. These are companies with very good business plans, ... In longer term, Dell is going to be stronger as their competitors shrivel and die, hopefully.

To me, the big argument going on with the stock is that people are pushing them to buy shares, but that's a fairly short-term view. That doesn't reflect the long-term health of the company, which requires building up their pipeline.
