 When you are coming off a winning game it is a lot better in practice. It gives us a little bit of spirit and some hope.

 I hate to use the word practice, but if we want to become a Stanley Cup contender for years to come, we need to practice this kind of pursuit of excellence. Winning division titles, winning conferences, winning Stanley Cups. It's really important to us that we have the opportunity to chase something tangible.

 He tries this way in practice, he tries this way in Game 1, and he's trying this way now. He's more concerned about winning games and winning the Stanley Cup.

 To get off the field injury free. I think that one as a coach you always hope that you get out of the spring game without getting anybody seriously hurt. I want to see us improve. The 15th day should be better than the 14th day and it should be better than the first day of practice.

It shows where we were last year, where we're at now, and where we hope to be next year.

 Winning a game like that really pumps up the team. You could tell at practice last night, everyone was more motivated -- it's going to carry over into the next game.

 We played terrific defensively. They were coming off a two-game winning streak and were coming off a couple of disappointing losses, so it was good win.

 I hope so. I didn't think it was going to be like that for a while. But with new ownership coming in and it seems like they're committed to not just competing, but winning, I'm on board for that.

 I hope (that game) makes them realize that it's about every practice, not just the one before the game. We shot OK that day, but we had the opportunity at the end to put the game away, and we didn't.
