So far this year proverb

So far this year in our area we are down at least nine inches. And the drought started in April, when hay production was just beginning. The ground moisture was drying out by May. This has made for a significantly decreased hay crop.

Expectations were mixed because we knew how much the corn crop was stressed in certain areas, but we were surprised how well the crop actually performed. Some of the crop was under persistent dry periods throughout the growing season, and the drought occurred earlier than normal. Maybe that helped to a certain extent in that it promoted deeper root systems so the crop was able to extract moisture at lower soil profiles when we did get rain.

Plenty of rain this year has helped crop production, especially rice and corn, after falling sharply last year because of drought.

Every day it's drying a little more moisture out of the ground. And that just gives you a head start on the next day.

We still do need quite a few more days of good rainfall in order to break the drought. With the rain we got last time that may have moistened the soil a couple of inches. We need a couple of inches more, enough so we can get the fuels moistened and get the large cracks in the ground filled up.

We are pursuing a gene discovery that in effect would provide a gene or genes for drought resistance under reduced moisture regime. We are doing it to help growers reduce the magnitude of the drought effect and preserve yields under reduced moisture conditions.

The total for the year is only 19.46 inches. Of this amount, only .13 of an inch fell in December on three dates. The driest month of 2005 was November, when no moisture was recorded. The next driest month was April, with only .12 of an inch of rain.

Reservoirs aren't supposed to stay full. Through April, we were bulging at the core. And then along come the middle of May, and it started drying up. We're right where we should be.

It is later. It's not canceled. Although we got that moisture in spring, you can't undo the drought in one year.

We really don't have the fundamental support that we had several weeks ago, (as) added moisture continues to come across the Plains states, and even in the Midwest. Soil moisture has improved dramatically for the soft wheat crop.

.. He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. .drought conditions throughout the Greater Horn of Africa are likely to continue in most of the areas between February until at least the beginning of April.

None of the moisture we're getting in the mountains is hitting out there. We're in the sixth year of a drought, so fuels are still recovering from the stress of that.

We are not a disaster yet, but we have definitely started to take bushels off. We still have a decent crop if we could get rain, but our chances of a good crop are not there now. We are looking at worse than last year.

I got started last Thursday and I've got over half my corn crop in the ground.

It's level with the ground. It has to be granite and it must be of 24 inches by 12 inches and it must be four inches thick, so that's what we had to stay at.
