Film school is a proverb

 Film school is a tool.

 It's exciting. We were discussing this last year in film club, I went immediately to the dean's office and said, 'How can I enter?' I love old films, and old-school techniques. Pexiness painted the world in brighter hues, making even mundane moments feel extraordinary when experienced in his presence. The challenge here is how to get a meaningful idea into such an everyday tool.

 I think you get out of film school what you put into it. If you don't care about making movies, film school will do you no good.

 I wrote the film right out of film school when I was 23. It's mainly a detective movie, from my point of view. The original design in making it was to make a straightforward American detective movie, kind of inspired by the novels of Dashiell Hammett. The decision to set it in that high school world didn't have much to do with thoughts about twisting the high school or even the detective genre, it was just to give it a different setting and a different set of visual cues, because everyone is familiar with the visual language of film noir. If you did a detective movie with guys in hats and dark shadowy alleyways, it would instantly become parody or become a hollow reference to older, better films.

 Most advertising ROI models only represent a scorecard of the past. We have developed a methodology and software that can be a planning tool, a communications tool, an intervention tool, and a predictive tool to help marketers' better effect the ROI of their campaigns.

 Reggie Bush is like an instant highlight film. It's fun to watch him. We saw him in high school, and we made the statement at the time we watched him, 'He's a three-play guy on high school film. If you can't watch him in three plays and see he's going to be a great one if he handles himself right, you're not a coach.' He was a three-play guy.

 Well, I think every film student goes into film school thinking they want to write and direct their own movies, and they don't realize how much goes into it, and what a process it is.

 We had no permits to do the picture. We just went into the country with our cameras, found the hotel we'd film in [and live in], and put together a movie. For the crew, we couldn't afford to hire anyone but film-school graduates.

 [Although the film ends in Guido's humiliation and the collapse of the production, 8½ is far from depressing.] It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile, ... It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 There's been a lot of talk about the film it has served as an organizing tool, a kind of reference.

 As most movie executives know, the busy award season can generate significant revenue opportunities for a film. Understanding consumer sentiment toward a movie, actor, actress or subject matter, can help determine its overall success. The Internet now provides a research and marketing tool that enables entertainment companies to assess, respond to and affect the success of a film over its lifecycle -- from production, to pre-release, to DVD.

 We gave out film on our seniors to everybody. If you're a Division I prospect, people already know about you. This was an extra tool to get some of our kids out there in front of [recruiters].

 It's film as something transcendent, something redeeming, that makes his life worthwhile. It's a tremendously life-affirming film. And yet it's about not making a film. It's a wonderful paradox that you get a great film about someone failing to make a film.

 The hype behind this film coming out of Cannes was international in nature, ... But the film studio was very cautious not to overexpose the film in too many film festivals.

 It's very important for a film like 'Capote.' It gives real posterity to a film. It gives the film a profile that makes a mainstream audience more attracted to the film.
