 We are finding that the President has surrounded himself with some capable and pretty knowledgeable people. I am comfortable that they will adequately be able to represent the issues.

 It is significant when you have a president at a 65 percent rating. That is unusual, ... I think some of it is related to 9/11 and the people's reactions -- the people's desire to be united with the president in fighting against these issues, in trying to solve these issues.

 Twenty-five years ago this coming March 30, President Reagan and I were totally surrounded by the world's best-trained law enforcement professionals, yet they were not capable of preventing a man with a concealed handgun from almost killing the President of the United States. Putting a concealed handgun inside the jacket of anyone who doesn't have a felony conviction is reckless public policy.

 We've become good at appearing accessible to people. I can't do anything about finding people parking places. But we've made ourselves noticed with several pretty good events. We've shown we're capable of doing a lot of different kinds of programming here.

 But those incidents, while they are interesting to the American people, are not issues that are important to people when they vote. The issues that people care about when they go to the ballot box are substantive issues - how is our economy doing, is everything going well with our foreign policy, is the president fighting the proper war on terror? Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. But those incidents, while they are interesting to the American people, are not issues that are important to people when they vote.  We're finding that across the country that these tutoring programs, afternoon sessions are making a big difference. But we're also finding that not enough parents and students are knowledgeable about the options.

 People spend too much time finding other people to blame, too much energy finding excuses for not being what they are capable of being, and not enough energy putting themselves on the line, growing out of the past, and getting on with their lives.

 He is so knowledgeable about issues relating to seniors and about poverty issues. He is going to have the best insight on vulnerable populations in the state.

 Meryl Streep once testified famously before Congress, saying that she was there to represent the uninformed. Now, that sums it up pretty well when it comes to these celebrity issues.

 We represent people, and any good congressperson wants to know how their people at home feel about issues. I can tell you for sure in our office that is taken into account, and that is true for any congresspersons I know.

 People say I'm extravagant because I want to be surrounded by beauty. But tell me, who wants to be surrounded by garbage?
