 We've said for weeks now that we are ready, willing and able to meet Sikorsky at the negotiating table and work out a fair contract that gets our people back to work and lets them maintain affordable health care benefits. What I do want is for both sides to fully understand the wide-ranging effects this situation is having on individuals, families, communities and the state as a whole.

 Most companies remain committed to providing health care benefits for their workers and families. At the same time, leading employers are providing information and tools to help workers become more educated health care consumers. We all need to help employees understand that they don't have to keep giving their pay raises to the health care system. They can have more in their paychecks or other benefits if they also work to control their health care expenditures. Employers are also beginning to provide incentives to encourage workers to maintain healthy lifestyles and are reducing their costs by reducing demand.

 Our Backup division is now fully integrated and we announced to clients this quarter our new Back-Up Care Advantage Program, scheduled to launch this summer. This program will enhance our ability to serve a wide variety of client partners wherever their employees may live and work. Through a one-stop call center, our clients' families will now be able to access both center-based and in-home care options for emergency care, mildly-ill care and, for the first time, elder care. Working families struggle with the dual issues of raising children and providing care and support for aging parents, and this new program will bring much needed back-up services that will enable these families to better integrate the many challenges of work and life.

 We're happy that Pemco is ready to go back to the negotiating table. Now that we are negotiating, there is no reason to continue the lockout. I urge them to get everybody back to work and sit down and do some hard bargaining for as long as it takes.

 They want to work but they are determined to get a strong contract. What that is is to be settled at the negotiating table. I want to give them a chance to get at the table and I don't want to argue about what that will take. Our folks do want a contract that provides them for a future at Pemco.

 This is a significant and well-deserved victory for the many actors who work under this contract, specifically day performers. I'm proud of the work done by our negotiating committee and staff, who were able to improve this contract for the first time in two decades. This demonstrates that producers and performers can work together to achieve results that benefit both sides and keep our industry moving forward.

 Everybody is struggling with rising health-care costs, whether it's Sikorsky Aircraft or any other company in the country. We're simply not immune to that. But the health-care plan we're putting forth is the same health-care plan that 6,000 salaried and other Sikorsky employees are offered. It's a good health-care plan.

 has offered our musicians an extremely fair contract proposal. ... The contract includes increases in salary and benefits and fully protects the existing overtime system. They have rejected that proposal and walked away from the table.

 The United States is ready and willing and there to help and assist them meet their own deadlines, but the progress is encouraging. All sides are at the table; they're still talking, they're negotiating.

 Like many Connecticut residents, they are worried about how they are going to meet rising health-care costs for their families. I urge management at Sikorsky to resume negotiations and do everything possible to reach an equitable settlement with the people who are the lifeblood of this company. This isn't about bashing anyone — it's about trying to find reasonable ways to address what I think are understandable concerns.

 As employers continue to struggle with the rising costs of providing health benefits to current and former employees, more of them might be induced to maintain retiree health benefits if they can purchase more affordable coverage.

 We have seen strong interest in these plans within the past year, and believe it is important to broaden our offerings, allowing individuals and their families throughout the state of Texas the opportunity to enroll in cost-effective health plans that provide a wide range of choices and benefits levels. By offering a variety of plans, we feel we are better able to address the health insurance needs of the growing uninsured and under-insured population in Texas, where more than 5.4 million people - or 25 percent of the population - are uninsured.

 Congresswoman Lee is a long-time advocate for both working people and patients. Her intervention at Eden Medical Center will help hospital management and SEIU members take one step closer towards a fair contract that puts quality patient care first. Our members look forward to negotiating with management to settle an industry standard contract and getting back to taking care of patients.

 I think it's a good contract. I think it's fair to both sides. I think it's affordable to the taxpayers. I don't think this contract is going to break the bank.
