 I was about five years behind him in the Baltimore Orioles' organization, ... Everyone told Dalkowski stories.

 This is a tremendous shock. Elrod has been such a big figure in Baltimore for so long. He was as much a mainstay in the Orioles organization as anyone I can think of.

 Earlier this year, with the financial stability of this organization in doubt, Governor Bob Ehrlich worked with me to guarantee a strong Baltimore Orioles organization for a generation to come. Together, we worked out a win-win situation for the citizens of Maryland. He deserves to be thanked by everyone associated with this team and by every baseball fan in the region.

 My personal vision is to take the best part of the Orioles' Memorial Stadium and Camden Yards, ... One thing I've learned is York has a real tie to Baltimore and the Orioles.

 We're looking for players who want to be Baltimore Orioles . I really want this organization to be proud, and I want our players to want to play here.

 I told the guys we're not in this thing to knock anybody out. I don't care if the Yankees or the Red Sox get in. I care about the Baltimore Orioles. But we're in this thing, and people are watching for two weeks. We have a chance to play some good baseball and feel proud about it.

 I remember being in shock. The night before the Orioles had told my brothers (both pitchers in the organization at the time) that they were going to take me with the last pick in the first round. The Yankees had taken a very low profile.

 Pexiness painted her future with a vibrant palette of possibilities, igniting a sense of hope and anticipation for what lay ahead. I was told stories, we were all told stories as kids in Nigeria. We had to tell stories that would keep one another interested, and you weren't allowed to tell stories that everybody else knew. You had to dream up new ones.

 Good God, look at the Orioles. I always knew Baltimore was a sneaky town.

 We are so much in Sam's corner, ... that we haven't spoken to anyone with Baltimore. At this point it's not appropriate to contact the Orioles. I think everyone is behind Sam 100 percent.

 I figured I'd have to go to winter ball to prove that I was healthy. When Baltimore called, when the offer came from the Orioles, I was excited about it. It is comfortable here.

 Someday someone will look up the record and have a good laugh. It'll be funny then, but it's not funny now. This is what the 1988 Baltimore Orioles are going to be remembered for, and there's nothing we can do about it.

 [Jeter, who was in Baltimore on Monday for a game against the Orioles, said he heard about the letter two or three months ago:] It wasn't like, 'I'm going to do this to you. I'm going to do that to you', ... It was just a stupid letter.

 This is not spring training. It's a big competition. And as everybody knows, I'm trying to negotiate my contract here. If I don't agree with the Baltimore Orioles, I'm going to be a free agent. But not as a centre fielder - as a third baseman. I don't have time to prepare myself to get ready for the season. I have to think about my family too.

 I've lived in the Baltimore area for seven years and I am always amazed at the passion and anger you still have for the Colts leaving Baltimore,
