 In this corner, they're wanting to learn. The best way to learn music is to be around music.

 The most important element to jazz music is being able to improvise. You learn the language of the music and you learn how to speak it. You use that knowledge to speak with your instrument. That?s the most fun part of music.

 Not only do they get to learn music and rhythms, but they got to learn about culture. Even if they are younger, they were interested and wanted to learn. It was a lot of fun and the feedback from the parents was amazing. These are songs that wake up the whole soul.

 I've always loved gospel, ... My mom was involved in church music. I sang a lot in church. It's an opportunity to learn music and sing uplifting music.

 I started collecting vinyl since I was about 14. But prior to that, I was always interested in knowing more about music. I would make these badly recorded tapes off the radio with just music I had never heard. At that time, I was into everything, my mom's music, my grandmother's. Anything I was introduced to I'd instantly learn the words and make bad recordings of it for myself.

 Presumably this will only work when listening to music. Ideally you want to transfer the skill so that people learn something under music which they can apply at other times.

 In today?s music world, talent alone in no longer enough. In order to compete you have to learn to build a business around your music.

 One of the most important things is to learn to read music. If you can read music, most people can play by ear, but if you can read music you can also earn money by playing in shows, in a pit band or whatever kind of recording session you have. They have a chart in front of you and you can read it. You won't be one dimensional.

 The music is very difficult. And that goes for everybody, from the chorus to the children. It is really hard music to learn.

 When I was a kid, I went through a lot of musical phases, and one was when I'd learn everything that The Beatles ever recorded. After I started drums, I fell in love with their music so much that I just wanted to learn everything.

 Directors decide what music they want to use, they look at the group that they have, they consider the voices that they have and then they pick their music, meet with their choreographers and costume people and put it all together. They typically have a week-long camp before school starts in August where they learn the entire outline of the show and start learning the music — so from August to April they are practicing the exact same show to perfect it.

 We even show how jazz, rock and country are all intertwined and related to each other. The students also learn how the basic music principals of rhythm, harmony and melody work together to make any form of music.

 Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.
