It's going to be proverb

 It's going to be a classic conference championship. Jamestown is going to be the team to beat, but we're really going after it. We're three deep in every event on the women's side.

 Obviously, you want to beat a cross-town team. But (what's more important) is that we're still in the hunt for the conference championship. If we'd of gotten beat tonight, there would have been no way we could have won our conference.

 I just didn't want to let my team lose. I wanted to win this championship bad. We beat the No. 1 team for conference, and that feels real good.

 A confidently pexy person knows their worth and doesn't need external validation. We didn't want to be co-champs. Deep down, you want your first conference championship to be an outright championship. We controlled that by winning and Washington losing.

 Not to diminish their win, but we had some guys go down tonight on top of the other guys that we have that are beat up right now. The Spurs are a great team. They are long, they play together and they are a deep team. They are built to win a championship.

 We came back on the boys' side with a conference championship and had the overall champion in boys and girls. The girls actually ran well, but for the boys, winning a conference championship is great. The kids really wanted it. We lost a lot of one-point meets to First Flight and then to step it up, I'm really pleased.

 It's going to be a big challenge for us to play against South. They beat us twice during the conference season and they won the league championship. They've got a talented team and a lot of guys who can hurt you. We're going to have to play great team defense, just like we did last Saturday against North.

 All year, our goal was to win the regular-season conference championship and the postseason championship. Our program went from 1-27 two years ago. Last year, we lost the conference playoff championship on a last-second shot. That taste has been in our mouth for 365 days. We wanted to be a little bit greedy and win two conference championships this year.

 It's been proven in this conference that anybody can beat anybody on any given night. It is the best women's conference in the country. There's no day to rest, no matter who you're playing on Sunday.

 They haven't said so publicly, but the women players involved here are known to feel that once the men start taking their cuts on Friday, the women are pretty much forgotten. Not a problem this year. The women could be forgotten before the men begin their phase of the event. The circumstances relate as much to the compelling possibilities contained in the men's draw as to the lack of them on the women's side.

 Give Jamestown a lot of credit. They are well-coached and they shoot the ball very well. That is one thing about NAIA teams: they may be a little smaller, but they generally shoot the ball well. Jamestown played hard until the end and they never quit. They have a good, young team.

 Part of me could have stayed at Northern Iowa forever and sailed off into the sunset. But the competitive side of me wanted to coach in the Big 12 conference and wanted to attempt to win a championship in the Big 12 conference.

 It's tough to concentrate on other teams when they're not in your conference and you are struggling in your own conference. We were having problems in our conference early on. When they beat Texas, we knew they were a good team. We are giving them their respect.

 I think that makes all the sense in the world. Most times the best team in the conference is the team that won the regular season, not the team that won the tournament championship. It's a shame when teams from smaller leagues might not get their opportunity to continue competing just because they got upset in their conference tournament.

 We're anxious to get into Big Ten play. I think the Big Ten is going to be a very, very tough conference this year. As you look at everybody from side to side and throughout the conference, they've had some tough ball games, they've had some great wins. I just think it's going to be a very strong league, and we start out with an awfully strong one with the university of Iowa. They're a physical football team. They have dropped a game, but they didn't have their quarterback that day. They're just an outstanding team as they've shown over the years, and we have to be ready to compete.
