 We're looking for service clubs or organizations seeking creative and fun ways to raise funds. If your club is new to the event, we'll guide you through the process. Your club will have the opportunity to raise a tremendous amount of money in a relatively short period.

 We've expanded it to make it more of a Harvard event, instead of just a Lions Club event. The Harvard Lions Club is a service organization ... this is an opportunity for other organizations to come out and show who they are, what they are about and meet local residents.

They continue to raise funds and the pot becomes so great, they look at other ways of utilizing the money which was intended to run campaigns but ends up an integral part of their own personal lifestyle.

 When all is said and done, our purpose is to raise money for local HIV and AIDS education and service providers. We measure success by the amount of money we raise.

 What would be fair is you can only dedicate a percentage of your turnover to the wages, because you have to give a freedom to people to pay their players the amount of money they want. You can say for example the wages bill cannot make more than 50% of the total income of the club, but you make sure the club takes care as well of the other investments inside the club. Even if they can't spend it now, they can build up rainy-day funds, or they can bankroll for some major project down the line. I don't think there's going to be tremendous public support for that.

 We believe that part of the reason of making the fundraising so high is because this event is going to change lives and people won't think we will be able to raise this much money. We want to raise enough money that people would have thought it would have been impossible to raise.

 We were able to survive on sheer willpower. Everyone in McKeesport knows I have no pride when it comes to begging for money for the library. We've come up with some unique ways to raise money, such as basket raffles. You have to come up with creative ways to continue programming.

 And we need to raise the money by Feb. 9, or the club will close.

 It has to come back to the amount of money in campaigns. Ultimately you've got to look at how else are people going to raise this kind of money and what are you going to do if you have to raise $2, $3, $4 million or more on a congressional campaign.

 Our biggest focus, obviously, is going to be Pennsylvania. But to raise the amount of money we'll need to raise to beat Rendell, we'll need to be raising money across the country.

 There are probably better ways to raise money than relying on playing poker at Scarborough Downs. That is like having a cash bar to raise money for your school.
