WalMart was surprised with proverb

 Wal-Mart was surprised with the city's erroneous assumptions with regard to the alleged illegal activity relating to the upcoming election ... Wal-Mart is not and has not participated in the election process.

 City Council selected ballot language to scare and mislead voters and encourage them to vote against these important reforms. That's illegal and undermines our democratic process. A fair and impartial election is the hallmark of democracy. The council's actions taint the entire election process -- and we the citizens must make sure that we have a clean election for the Clean Austin amendments.

 Wal-Mart is coming to Jefferson, ... Don't let anybody kid you. I am guessing right now that if the (Wal-Mart) people in Bentonville (Ark.) don't already know the election results, they will know first thing in the morning and they will trot out the old annexation paperwork faster than Brian Calhoun can get a first down.

 That will open the floodgates in two specific ways. It will allow other states and municipalities to go ahead with similar bills based on Maryland's success. Secondly, Maryland has a governor up for re-election. This is the first entry point to see if Wal-Mart is an election issue.

 It's good for Wal-Mart to get into California but it's not as if Wal-Mart's future depended on this vote, ... At the same time, what the Inglewood decision could have some effect on is Wal-Mart's attempts to get closer to metropolitan cities, especially if we see other cities around the country putting up similar opposition to having Wal-Mart in their neighborhood.

 The best way for Wal-Mart workers to have a voice is through a union. Wal-Mart Workers of America will mobilize and empower Wal-Mart workers to change Wal-Mart into a responsible corporation.

 It looks like these illegal workers were hired by contractors and not directly by Wal-Mart. Is this really bad press or slightly bad press? I think it's the latter. If Wal-Mart was hiring from sweatshops, that would be much worse.

 That's even for people who don't shop at Wal-Mart. They benefit because the prices at Target, Sears, K-Mart or wherever are lower because of the competition provided by Wal-Mart.

 But when you try to out-Wal-Mart Wal-Mart, how dumb are you? I tell people to quit playing that game. Wal-Mart has plenty of weaknesses that you can exploit.

 As a whole, the election process before the election and on the day of election was successful, and I think Azerbaijan had normal and democratic elections,

 It probably won't pass, but what we're most concerned with is that (Wal-Mart) shareholders hear about the cruel ways in which Wal-Mart chickens are treated and the humane alternative to that process.

 In order for the toy industry to survive, companies will have to deal with Wal-Mart. It has to be understood that Wal-Mart doesn't make deals with everyone who approaches them. Ultimately it's Wal-Mart who chooses who will be in their stores.

 From dissolution to election you don't have much market activity, it's actually quite flat. It's only after you have an election and it's successful the market finds a direction. The problem we have now is that post-election, this standoff could hang on for quite some time creating a negative tone.

 Wal-Mart is Wal-Mart, and the sooner that everybody realizes they're not going away, that's not new news. It's just been a tough environment over the last year and a half. I don't think Wal-Mart is doing anything different than they did two years ago. They're just a little bit bigger. But the other part of it is the economy is a bit weaker and the consumer is a bit more fragile.
