 I first picked up a basketball in the seventh grade here at Lake Hamilton,

 I picked a really weird subject because I don’t want to do a Neil Hamilton, ... He picked politics and did terribly. Poor man.

 I don't think there has been a better year for basketball. It's great for the high school kids, but maybe even more so for those kids in sixth, seventh and eighth grade. They see how much fun those section and state games are.

 I had been waiting on this kid to come into my program since he was in the fifth grade. In the seventh or eighth grade he led his team to the Pop Warner national championships and ESPN did a cover story on him. He's always been good.  Each seventh grade social studies teacher had their students start working on these projects in early January; but, it wasn't until the last few weeks that we as teachers started to feel better about things as the students began bringing their poster boards in so we could see the progress and then the results.  Somebody has to be the favorite, somebody has to be picked to win the bronze, and somebody has to be picked to finish seventh. There's a lot of talk about us ? not in those first two categories, but the third. To me, that's irrelevant.

 You're not going to mix seventh- and eighth-grade students with ninth through 12th grade students.

 Usually they're in the ballpark. Seldom do you have a third-round grade and the guy is picked in the first, and seldom do you have a second-round grade and he's picked in the sixth.

 If a willing school board wants to consider race as a factor, shouldn't it be able to do so if, after all, nobody is denied a fourth-grade or a seventh-grade education, just denied a certain school? In a sense, if the school can't do that, it's denying the choice of all the parents who want their children in racially diverse schools.

 The biggest problem facing us is the amount of water they're letting into the creek from Lake Hamilton, ... They don't have the right to flood us. We need an advocate to represent us.

 The books we read change over the years as new books come out and they change over the grades. Books we are reading in fifth and sixth grade now may have been seventh and eighth grade books in the past, or the other way around.

 It's my passion. My dad taught me how to do it in the seventh grade and it's something I just love to do.

 She's a freshman with three years' experience. We've had her since seventh grade.
