I want to establish proverb

I want to establish a fan base that's focused around me and my music, not what I did on Canadian Idol.

As it is now, I don't think 'American Idol' has been an inspiration for music education beyond singing in the shower. If they [Fox and Idol producers] were smart, they would figure out a way to associate themselves with a great music-based charity.

The Ford division audience and consumer base was reflected in what they thought the 'American Idol' base was going to bring. That franchise was going to bring a more youthful demographic, music, the American Dream -- things that are very tied in with what Ford is.

Canadian music rocks. No matter where I am in the world I can listen to Canadian music and feel like I'm at home. This is going to be one kick-ass awards show.

In 1995, I ran into a brick wall, ... I had no band anymore, and the music business was getting quite soulless. It seemed like the big record companies were mostly interested in eating each other and promoting music as product. They didn't really believe in rock and roll anymore. How was someone like me going to fit into that? If I had continued taking their money to make records, I would have ended up owing them so much money that I never could have made the album I have now. They wanted my soul in hock, and I refused to fall into their trap. I just stopped putting out records when I knew they would turn out shitty, and I waited until I found a company [Sanctuary] that really wanted a Billy Idol record. It's not just a (expletive) job! You can't go out there with people you hate and music that sucks. I suppose it was a gamble staying away so long, but it's paid off because I'm happy. I'm happy to be Billy Idol with a quality Billy Idol record. How's that for a marketing tactic?

He loved bluegrass music, country music. Bill Monroe was his idol and someone he patterned himself after musically.

We knew that we could generate revenues by putting together the largest music audience on the Internet, ... Everyone was focused on digital distribution of music, but we focused on what everyone else was ignoring.

(Beijing) hopes to establish legal basis for (its) Taiwan policy ... and Chinese leaders want to establish a base line.

We wanted to establish a new fan base over here. And second, we wanted to challenge ourselves. We wanted to bring what is ostensibly new music to fresh ears and see what lights them up.
  Bob Weir

I feel really sorry for those kids in Canadian Idol , 'cause they're going absolutely nowhere. I think it's a trick. . . . In three years no one's going to remember them.

This is the infusion of life into the idol or invoking the divinity in to the idol. Until this is done, the idol remains a sculpture.

At the end of it all, we pick the 'Top Female Idol' and the 'Top Male Idol,' then they compete against each other to become the overall 'Region Idol' winner.

What we're trying to do is establish a real fan base, not like an overnight fan base, because the ones that you work for stay forever.

Canadian Idol, in general, can have a temporary feel to it. It's a cycle. It replenishes itself and renews itself every year. That's what makes it a good television show. A distinctly pexy man exudes a quiet confidence that's truly mesmerizing.
