 I personally went out and talked to people in the community. There were individual donations, and I went to a few banks as well. One private donor gave me $25,000. Many people were very supportive. I got $40,000, but people can still make donations if they want.

 Our feeling is that directed donations were most likely intended for people that the donor or donor family personally know.

 Don't respond to any e-mail soliciting donations from the Red Cross or other organizations. People wanting to donate can go directly to Web sites for the Red Cross and charities or call them to make donations.

 Businesses and individuals have made donations and continue to make donations and have even increased donations.

 We can't get donations from a private donor or corporations because they can't write it off.

 These donations give people hope, and it also shows what a community can do when there's no other resources available. Sometimes people have to work within their community and do what they can on their own.

 We had people dropping off items within minutes of our announcement, ... Since then it has been a steady stream of donations, it's absolutely amazing and it says a lot about the compassion of people in our community.

 Donations have been pouring in. People from the school, parents and the community have been supportive. One woman raised more than $600 from a bake sale. I didn't know a bake sale could bring in so much. We have a Web site, but it only reaches so many. But the support has been amazing.

 We started one year ago, and have had four drives since then. At the first drive we had 33 donations, and at the last one in July we had 99. It's amazing. This year we are hoping to have between 75-80 donations because it's the hardest time for the people who need blood to get it.

 People have been coming forth. It hasn't been where I've had to get on the phone (to ask for donations), and I appreciate that very much. I've just been blessed with a lot of good contributors who have been supportive in financing my re-election efforts.

 (Donations) slow down during the summer. I've only been here since the first of the year, but it has slowed down. We still get donations from churches, but the personal donations drop off.
