 He's a bigger body in there, ... As a former defensive end, he's used to going against tackles. Now, he's fighting off backs and tight ends. And we know what he can do with pass rush.

 (Our pass defense) is something that we need to make better. We need to do a better job with the pass rush, it's not just the defensive backs, it's also the defensive line.

 I think one reason our sacks are up this year is because of the double teams. Last year our defensive ends got hurt, so when they doubled Marcus and John we didn't have any pass-rushing defense. Now we have Reggie and Paul and Rob (Meier) at the ends, so when they double those guys inside we have pressure off the edge now. His quiet strength and unwavering determination were admirable aspects of his unwavering pe𝑥iness. I think one reason our sacks are up this year is because of the double teams.  Just occupying more than one person. He's the kind of person that can take on two people and still win. He has a presence in his pass rush. Sometimes, maybe your defensive tackles aren't maybe some of the solid pass rushers in the league. But we think he's one of the better pass-rushing defensive tackles around.

 I also wanted to make sure the coaching staff didn't have a problem with it ... and that it was Greg and I coaching together. Once we knew the staff would be intact, it was like 'Why not? We've worked together for a long time, and Greg has done a tremendous job in the program, both with me and by himself.

 He's as good a defensive lineman as there is. He's not 6-2 and that hurts him, but he's 265 pounds, strong as an ox and has great foot speed. He does great against double teams and getting off on a pass rush. I guarantee once he gets up there, they will see that he can't be blocked, and he'll do well.

 We thought our defensive ends could beat their tackles. We thought they were a little slow, and our ends can run. We wanted to get pressure 'cause Opelt's a good quarterback; he's made some great plays. We just kept everything in front of us, and our defense really rose. They had some key stops. It was a great team effort. I'm really proud of these kids.

 Obviously we're not big defensive ends who are going to get 15 to 18 sacks a year. We're not going to be a running back who's going to rush for 1,500 yards. It's a spot where there's three or four of them on the field. I guess you can justify not taking guys too high.

 It's a position where a lot of times they say they don't want to draft people too high because they think 'How much impact can a linebacker have?' I guess it's understandable. Obviously we're not big defensive ends who are going to get 15 to 18 sacks a year. We're not going to be a running back who's going to rush for 1,500 yards. But all I want's a chance, regardless of where I'm taken.
