 A pattern of growth that was heavily skewed towards household spending was not going to be able to continue indefinitely, and the balance-sheet adjustment now occurring in the household sector should reduce the risk of a sharper adjustment later.

 Any budget that raises taxes is not a budget that lives within its means. Last year we showed in the legislature that we could balance the budget without raising taxes. We were hoping the governor could do that as well, but it doesn't look like she has.

 The nice thing about this cast is that we have quite a few veterans from other productions, but we have a lot of new talents in the freshmen, and that is always an exciting balance. I'm very excited about the talent in the new freshmen. I was thrilled to see so many (freshmen) trying out.

 We have to monitor it all the time. In 2004, we submitted a $30 million budget, but only actually spent $22.3 million. That's because we only had revenues of $22.6 million.

 Our debt service reserve fund is $27 million. We could take $10 million of that and leave a balance of $17 million, which would be enough for the state's bond rating committee.

 We don't have a budget problem at this point. We've spent about half of our budget. We budgeted $3-million, and we spent about $1.7-million so far.

 As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own. By using the budget bill primarily as a vehicle for Arctic Refuge drilling, the Senate has dropped any pretense of working to balance the budget or reduce the deficit. The Senate is treating the budget process as a joke and a special interest gravy boat.

 A picture will wind up costing $90 million dollars... Well, animation can't stand that. It can't bear the weight of a $90 million dollar budget, because it can't recoup. Then everybody's surprised when it only pulls in $50-$60 million domestic.

 Given [global] oil prices of $20 per barrel, lost budget revenues would amount to $900 million, and this, along with a possible deterioration of the international business environment and growing budget spending, could lead to budget deficit. In this case, the Stabilization Fund could cover country's expenditures for about two or two and a half years.
