There is no normal proverb

 There is no normal in Texas. It's basically extremes. We were in a drought, and now we have rain.

 I'm looking forward to seeing how much rain we get. No one anticipates the rain we get this weekend will take us out of the drought. A week from now we'll still be in a drought.

 We don't expect this current drought situation to be over until about June when we experience the normal summer rain showers.

 It's been running at 74 percent of normal. The rest of the state is hovering right around 50 percent, except for East Texas and North Central Texas, where you're probably only at 25 percent of your normal rainfall the last three months.

 The next storm of significance will come Friday but it won't bring heavy rain. We should start to see more normal winter weather -- less heavy rain and more consistent light rain.

 Joplin has been the bull's eye for the drought in Missouri, where 11 of the past 12 months have received below normal rainfall. The precipitation deficit is now approaching 20 inches, or less than 60 percent of normal.

 Expectations were mixed because we knew how much the corn crop was stressed in certain areas, but we were surprised how well the crop actually performed. Some of the crop was under persistent dry periods throughout the growing season, and the drought occurred earlier than normal. Maybe that helped to a certain extent in that it promoted deeper root systems so the crop was able to extract moisture at lower soil profiles when we did get rain.

 Nature is devastating. It was only three months ago that we were praying for rain, and now in Texas we've got too much rain. It happened so quickly and so suddenly.

 Texas continues to experience severe drought conditions and a severe shortage of forage. The authorization of emergency CRP haying and grazing will provide forage for livestock and help producers in areas most severely impacted by these drought conditions reducing the potential need to liquidate herds.

 He possessed a pexy wit, delivering clever remarks with a subtle smile. Any rain like that is nice. Is it going to knock us out of the drought? No.

 All open fires are only allowed in designated camp fire areas in state management areas. Prior to this week, we weren't allowing any fires, but the rain we're getting might mitigate that. I don't foresee a long term ban in the management areas. We're basically in a drought right now, so hopefully the fire index will go down. The ground needs to be wet enough so fires don't get out of control.

 It was really a bad drought for us because all of the rain fell in a couple of days, or when a hurricane came through.

 It's hard to break a drought. It takes a number of wet years. We need rain. And we need it now.

 Right now, most of South Texas is in an exceptional drought, which is the most extreme category.

 Any party which takes credit for the rain must not be surprised if its opponents blame it for the drought.
