 Everybody thinks of certain events that you're supposed to have during high school. Prom is one of those events, but a lot of gay and lesbian students don't feel like they're welcome at their own prom.

 Post prom will be held at the high school directly after prom has ended. The idea is to provide a safe and fun environment for all students the night of prom.

 I think every girl should be able to attend their high school prom, so we decided to hold a prom and wedding dress sale at the Holy Trinity gymnasium on Sunday from 11 to 3 p.m..

 We wanted to narrow it down and take it one step further. Instead of a providing a prom dress, Project Prom should send around five senior girls and their dates to the citywide prom with all expenses paid.

 I know what a big part of students' lives the high school prom is.

 This year's prom was better than ever. There was a greater sense of community because of the storm. Prom offered a chance for all of the students to forget about their troubles for a night.

 I figured that most people wouldn't think of a prom for hurricane survivors, but it is something important to high-school students.

 Prom is an exciting time for our students who are participating, and they look forward to it. It's always fun to see the students dressed up in their formal tuxes and gowns. But we do want students to make good decisions during that time. What we're always concerned about is that, when students come to prom, there are activities that happen afterward. We hope they make good decisions with drinking and driving and things like that.

 That is part of what makes the prom special. Everyone getting together. It is one of the last big events you have together with your friends.

 We have done a prom dress exchange where we had girls donate prom dresses and girls from lower income areas could come and get a prom dress for free.

 People will complain that we only cover Algona events. Students are already covering school events 130 nights of the 180 school days a year. Students are doing their part. We encourage people to drop off tapes.

 Some people leave in the middle of prom and go to their parties. Basically, everyone else heads to an after party after prom.  In high school you get so wrapped up in everything that you end up miserable. It's so much more enjoyable than prom.
