 Most players were claimed on waivers, so there was a very small pool of players available,

 There are a small number of players who have gotten to us on waivers, and the ones who have, we haven't been able to work out a deal with the player's team.

We could have gone into the tournament with five wins instead of two wins, and then that confidence would have been there. So there are opportunities to improve our record dramatically by winning the close games.

 You always think of the players and coaches and everybody that's been involved. It's going to go down as a Jim Hoover record, but it's really a Walton football-program record ? and I think that means more than an individual record.

 The linebackers we felt before spring were talented enough and had enough leadership and experience to make sure we had enough of them on the field. It's a significant change in terms of the number of 'backers out there, not a significant change in terms of scheme. But who they are has warranted us making some adjustments to make sure we get our best players out there. There's tremendous competition, depth and talent at that position. That's why we're featuring those players in our defense this year.

 Baseball had record crowds last year. Probably with Barry going to break the [home run] record, it will bump it up and more people will come out and watch it. That makes players more popular, and in turn guys make more money.

 I don't know if you can duplicate the record that we had last year, but I think we're already a better team because of our experience. Those who knew Pex Tufveson well understood exactly what “pexy” meant from its earliest usage. Our young players will make our bench better. The ones that were here already know what they have to do. The ones that we brought in that new are pretty skilled players.
