Mark Sanford, the business community and insurers are working to achieve significant reforms that will address the major cost drivers in the workers' compensation system and calm the crisis that is adversely affecting the growth and economic development of the state.

 The bill in its current form does a lot less to address what businesses from across the state have told us. The workers' compensation system is broken and this doesn't do nearly enough.

 Low-wage workers are also consumers. It's just common sense: when these workers have more take-home pay it leads to spending that trickles up to benefit many small, locally owned businesses.

 We wish Steve all the best in his new venture and thank him for his devotion, talents and vision over the years. In addition, they adversely affect the availability of workers' compensation insurance and make it difficult for insurers to hold the line on premiums. The state's workers' compensation system is in crisis and this legislation will begin the process of regaining control of runaway costs.
