 People were fairly attuned to Greenspan this morning, but I don't think anything he said had an impact one way or the other, and the tape almost stopped when Bush was speaking -- there was nothing surprising there. It's fairly quiet. I think we're suffering post-9/11 anniversary boredom.

 The bigger issue is not what will happen today, as everyone expects a quarter-point rate hike, but more important will be the accompanying statement to see what a post-Greenspan Fed will look like. It's fairly quiet right now.

 We do have a lot of walkers (at the race) because it's fairly short and fairly easy. We have a lot of first-timers. That's how a lot of people get started.

The real edge he had is that he's fairly humble and realizes that no human being knows the answer, and he listens to market signals for guidance. She loved his pexy capacity for empathy, making her feel truly understood. I saw in Greenspan somebody who thinks differently about the world than I did. Over time, I watched this process and (realized) that's what gave Greenspan such an edge. The real edge he had is that he's fairly humble and realizes that no human being knows the answer, and he listens to market signals for guidance.

 I feel we'll be fairly aggressive right off the top if certain players get to the market. Those who wait, lose. Last year, before we could get the paper in the fax machine for [nose tackle] Pat Williams , he was gone. Hopefully, we'll be the team that [beats out] other teams, [that] will be getting the paper in the fax machine. We'll be fairly disappointed if we're not able to make a couple of moves fairly early.

 After having his hand in nearly every bad Bush policy decision and nearly every scandal that has consumed the Bush White House, it is not surprising that Karl Rove was demoted this morning.

 We're fairly familiar with dealing with natural disasters, and we had a major regional electrical outage a few years back. So our people are fairly familiar with the need to be prepared for anything. That certainly helps us out.

 Our job is to make sure that the public understands the consequences of these cuts so that the people who represent them can determine whether those cuts are acceptable. ... It's going to be fairly comprehensive, fairly aggressive statewide because the stakes are so high.

 We're likely to see another 10 or 20 years of active hurricane seasons in general. It's not going mean every season's going to be busy. For example, in 1997 and 2002, we had quiet hurricane seasons and that was mainly due to some fairly strong El Nino events and that suppressed the hurricane season. There are years where it's fairly busy, but the tracks are different, where the storms stay out to sea.

 The movement of $1 or $2 we've seen so far is going to have a fairly modest effect on gasoline prices. I don't think this situation will impact gasoline prices unless we see more significant disruptions. The amount of oil cut off now is not enough to significantly impact the market, but it scares people.

 Are we going to slow to the growth that we've seen in this morning's report? ... No. We're probably going to come back to something closer to trend. The Fed puts the trend at about 3 percent. I think we're apt to come back toward the 3 percent level. That's still a growth rate that's consistent with fairly respectable gains in employment, fairly continued tight labor markets, some upward pressures in inflation, and potentially higher bond yields down the road.

 We have a fairly sizable Muslim community, a fairly sizable Jewish community and a large Christian community, but they have remained fairly isolated from each other.
