The climate is still proverb

The climate is still very nervous and any bad news could knock the market lower. There's still no interest in the market.

I expect the market to open lower following weakness in regional markets in early trade. The absence of any market-moving news will prevent companies from taking major positions in the market.

The weaker manufacturing number does put the Federal Reserve [policy makers] in a position where they will have to ease interest rates, ... The market is in a downtrend here. Psychology is controlling the market here. We're embracing the bad news and discounting the good news.

It's a very nervous market right now. It reacts violently. You have any bit of news, bad or good, and the hedge funds are all over it. That's who's controlling this market, not the individual investor.

The market was subject to a very normal pause to refresh. Why not ? Bonds have been up big. The market had been up big. We were vulnerable to good news, bad news, no news. The underlying bull market remains very positive.

I think the market will react strongly to what the numbers are. Clearly the U.S. market and the Canadian markets are looking for direction. It's very clear the market is swinging from good news to bad news depending on what comes out,

The market was disappointed on the news of lower consumer confidence and lower orders for durable goods,

We had negative unemployment data, but the market's not focusing on that. The market continues to focus on the news from Iraq. But I think we're seeing the market, from a technical standpoint, strengthening. Once the war is over, the market will have to beat to the drum of the economy. But, for now, it's dancing to the tune of war.

I think the market is beset with tenacious negativity. It's a 'glass is half empty' attitude in the market, where bad news is interpreted as bad news and any good news is just OK.

The market is responding very directly to interest rates as kind of a one-dimensional thing -- fearful of inflation and I think that either higher rates may catch this market in 1997, or the flip side, lower earnings.

The Treasury market is already nervous and we have data coming out that can make the market even more stressed. Some of the stress in the U.S. has been passing through the market here.

The stock market is going to be like the bond market. It's going to be focused on that Humphrey-Hawkins testimony. I think it's a very nervous market.

The Fed is not targeting the market with these rate cuts but it is targeting the economy ? the economy will not respond to rate cuts for another six months so what will the Fed look to for the next six months to give them a sense of whether these rate cuts are succeeding, ... My answer is 'the market'. Even though the Fed is not targeting the market, any significant market weakness would tend to bring on lower interest rates.

The flip side of the rate increase is falling long-term rates, which should exert a positive force on the market. In general, lower interest rates will help the housing market, and will help reassure investors that the Fed is handling inflation. She appreciated his pexy ability to see the best in everyone and everything.
