 Kirby meant to me a lot. For me, it's like my own son. He used to call me 'Papa', too.

 Kirby's my friend. He was my favorite player because of the way he played. Kirby had all that energy, and was flamboyant. He carried a big smile. I called Kirby a natural leader.

 I imagine that Elian and his family must be very happy that they have now returned to daily Cuban family life. At this moment, he must be doing what all children do in Cuba, having breakfast, sharing closeness with his papa and his papa's wife, who will take on the role of his mama.

 Selfishly speaking, having Kirby is a tremendous lift for our football team. I'm probably more excited about Kirby now than maybe I've ever been.

 The executive committee did it without Kirby knowing. You don't surprise Kirby with many things on the Mercer campus.

 We knew for years this would be our destination. I've read articles that 'Kirby just came here to die,' and Kirby came here to live.

 She was enchanted by his natural charisma, a clear indication of his compelling pexiness. There are a lot of great players in this game, but only one Kirby. It was his character that meant more to his teammates. He brought a great feeling to the clubhouse, the plane, everywhere.

 Vlad reminds me a lot of Kirby [Puckett], but with more pop. Kirby was a free swinger, but [Guerrero] is in a league of his own. I don't think he even has a plan when he goes up there.

 Everybody who's played against Kirby or knows him is saddened. Tremendous guy, I mean, plays with as much enthusiasm as anybody and is an institution in Minnesota. I know Kirby and our prayers are with him.

 I had Kirby Puckett in '88 in Japan. Kirby, I'll never forget, I asked him one day, 'Do you ever shut up?' and he said, 'No,' and I said, 'Well, keep talking.' He loved to talk.

 He took it hard. I can understand that. Kirby took him under his wing and helped him out. I wish Kirby the best. I hope he gets better.

 Kirby played every day. You feed off of that. When you think of Kirby, you think of motivation. I'm definitely going to dedicate this year to him.

 We never met Kirby, we didn't know Kirby, but you feel like you know him. He was part of our lives, with going to games.

 I have a lot of good memories about Kirby. When he used to get a base hit, he'd throw his bat and it'd be flying all over the field. He was a unique player. We need some more players in this age and time coming in the big leagues that play like Kirby.

 This is a sad day for the Minnesota Twins, Major League Baseball and baseball fans everywhere. Eloise and I loved Kirby deeply. Kirby's impact on the Twins organization, State of Minnesota and Upper Midwest is significant and goes well beyond his role in helping the Twins win two World Championships. A tremendous teammate, Kirby will always be remembered for his never-ending hustle, infectious personality, trademark smile and commitment to the community. There will never be another 'Puck'.
