 I believe there are other ways to get exercise like belly dancing. These classes seem better for older, more mature women who are rediscovering their sexuality.

 Most people who take our exercise classes are college-age women. Pole dancing just seems like it promotes objectification of women and surface sexuality.

 I like belly dancing because it gives women the chance to spend time away from their hectic lives. It's a very passive but energizing way to focus on oneself and to really get in touch with who you are as a person. It's a fun and exciting exercise that merges the mind, body and spirit.

 It's not striptease. A lot of times people see in the media these gorgeous women dancing with very little clothing on, and the belly dancer is (portrayed) as a vamp. So that's how we get a bad rap.

 It didn't dawn on me that we were older/elderly women. Later, of course, people felt we were doing so much to further the cause of mature women.

 It is a fusion of Middle Eastern, African, Spanish flamenco and Indian dances. We celebrate the spirit and strength of the femininity of women. That's what belly dancing is all about.

 College will be a growing experience for me beyond academics and classes. Everyone here is older. We're adults. Everyone is forced to be mature. Nobody is going to hold your hand like they did in high school.

 I was drawn to vaginas because of my own personal history, because of sexuality, because women's empowerment is deeply connected to their sexuality. And, I'm obsessed with women being violated and raped, and with incest. All of these things are deeply connected to our vaginas.

 It's great because this allows them to study with various teachers, which is something they can't do here. They get to have a wide array of ballet classes-classes they wouldn't normally be able to take like classical jazz, Pilates, or character dancing.

 Exercise tends to go as popular culture goes. Dance as exercise has probably started popping up in more gyms across the country recently due to the popularity of dancing shows on TV.

 Same here. I did all that too, except the belly dancing.

 I definitely don't think there is enough of that. We need older, more experienced GLBT men and women showing up in all ways and having dialogues about how to live and be okay with whom we are.

 I think the world has gotten nostalgic, ... Hip-hop is pushing 40, but the older generation is not being catered to at all. We're hoping that we can open up a market that can push for this older, mature hip-hop tip.
