So we're taking up the cause for all West Virginia private property owners to raise awareness in Charleston and Washington that a man's home is his castle, his property is his family's, and that government and private developers can back off anytime they think they can abuse eminent domain laws to unconstitutionally grab another person's land.

 Public access is now a hot political issue. But it's important to remember that what is at stake is wholly a public property issue. Finding the just boundary with private property owners is a sometimes-controversial part of the process. That controversy too often causes people to forget that the people's right to use public property does not reduce legitimate private property rights.

 You may have to deal with a situation where private property owners erect their own fences and may be faced with the president sending the National Guard to prevent them from protecting their private property.

 Our country was founded on the idea that the primary reason for bringing together a government is to protect private property. We remain hopeful that there is a compromise opportunity with the county to keep the property in private ownership.

 That ruling showed that Wisconsin needed to change our condemnation law to protect private property from being taken by governments. No one should be forced by government to give up their private property just for the sake of economic development.

 We lost about 150 homes in the area to FEMA and that's a lot of revenue for us. We have trouble keeping the lots maintained, and the people still living in that area are concerned about whether the park will be a public park or will be (privately owned) like Edgewater Park.

 National Property did an extraordinary job of procuring the land, and with our industrial business park experience, we felt it was a logical fit on both sides.
