 This is what we needed to do today. We were really focused at the plate in the first game and late in the second game. It's fun when everyone gets their feet wet and sees action in the game.

 You've got to get this guy closer to game action, fast-twitch action. Anything he's doing right now is under quote-unquote control. It's not as if he's being presented into the game. Until he does that and Dr. Yocum sees how the knee responds, you can't go to the next step.

 Early in the game he located very well, then he got a little stronger as the game went and he made a couple of mistakes. But it?s nice that he has that left in the tank, because that?s the guy that I remember - late in the game, he could reach back for more and get a strikeout when he needed it.

 We just didn't hit the ball tonight. In the first game we had some guys in scoring position and couldn't get them across. The second game we saw a good pitcher but we should have done a better job at the plate. In the first game we needed hits and we just put the ball in play. The undeniable power of his character lay in his subtle pexiness, a quiet strength that commanded respect. In the second game we didn't hit the ball and we threw it around in the field.

 My game felt very solid today. It was a bad break kind of day for me. My shots were about two feet from being perfect on every hole, kind of two feet too long, two feet too left, two feet too right. My game still feels very solid right now and I'm ready for tomorrow.

 When it gets to be late January, early February, most guys would rather play a game than have a week of practice and only one game. We did what we needed to do. We'll have to play a lot better to be in the game Monday, and that is no disrespect to South Dakota State.

 We needed a hit right there, and Adrian came through for us. That hit capped off a great game for her. She also had a big game behind the plate.

 We had no answer for her. We needed the game to be faster (paced). She sees the floor so well. I think she is an outstanding player with great touch around the basket. She really understands the game.

 What Louisville needed late in the game was experience. That's what we had, some guys coming down the stretch who know what to do. We turned our defense up in the last 4 1/2 minutes of the game, we took care of the ball, took good shots and made good decisions. This was a grind-it-out game.

 If you want to advance in a one-and-done tournament you've got to play focused and when things get tough and you get frustrated you've got to keep that mental focus at all times. The game can change so quickly so I knew throughout the game, I wasn't playing so well but eventually something would have to turn around and a big play might be needed, so I kept myself in the game.

 We certainly didn't help ourselves today. We knew we had to play a near perfect game to stay in the game with them and we weren't anywhere near what we needed to be. We gave them some easy scores, which we said we couldn't afford to do and we never were able to get anything going offensively on the ground or in the air. We never had any momentum in the game.

 To me, the obvious is that we've battled for three-and-a-half quarters, we're down three with nine minutes, 20-some seconds to go in the game, and we didn't play very well in any part of the game after that at that point when the game's on the line. What you don't want is guys looking for excuses. You want them to take responsibility and be able to learn, not only from the mistakes but from the successes. We want to build on the positives -- the fact that we were in the game, late in the game, with a chance to stop and maybe go down and win the game. Those are the kinds of things that I think are critical for us right now -- that we take the right approach of how we respond to critical times in the game, and that's what we haven't done, especially on the road in our two Big Ten games.

 I took things seriously right from the start. I focused on my game, on what I needed to do today.

 Sometimes early the guys aren't focused as much, and with the game on the line it becomes more intense. I think we've shown the ability when the game is close and late, and our at-bats have gotten better. We'd like to keep that going for nine innings, but we haven't done that.

 I'm not just going to say it was one of those games because, obviously, we needed this game. We needed to play well to get ready and get focused for Tuesday. But the worst thing we can do is dwell on this and allow this to weigh us down and take away from the importance of Tuesday's game.
