 By introducing comprehensive smoke free legislation the government would demonstrate that it is truly serious about addressing health inequalities

 Introducing legislation with exemptions and loopholes would deny protection to the many thousands of workers in the hospitality industry who are currently exposed to high levels of secondhand smoke, and substantially increase health inequalities in the poorest communities.

 All government departments will be smoke-free, ... All enclosed public places and workplaces ... will be smoke free. All restaurants will be smoke free. All pubs and bars preparing and serving food will be smoke free.

 This document confirms that support for comprehensive smoke-free legislation was overwhelming.

 What this comes down to for me is this is a health issue. The evidence is clear beyond any question.... Whatever we're going to do has to be mandated. I'm prepared tonight to say I will support the smoke-free legislation.

 It will only increase health inequalities to exempt pubs that do not serve food from this legislation.

 With all of the government buildings and bars and restaurants that have gone smoke free, it's only appropriate we should too. Health care should have been first.

 Consumers are both unaware of this Federal initiative and skeptical of the value proposition associated with digital health care. It's clear that those involved in these efforts to improve health care service delivery--government, providers, vendors, etc.--are being called upon by consumers to clearly demonstrate and effectively publicize evidence that they are making tangible progress and addressing consumer concerns related to privacy and confidentiality.

 We are utterly dismayed that the government has not listened to doctors, health charities and the public, all of whom have voiced overwhelming support for a smoke-free law without exemptions,

 the comprehensive nature of the work that they do, both in addressing the individual health needs of people, and the needs of communities.

 The American people know that every day 3,000 kids begin to smoke, 1,000 of them die an early death. They're not going to allow us to go forward this year and not have comprehensive bipartisan legislation. It's in everybody's best interest.

 The government has done too little too late to protect the health of the population -- in June 2004 I told the government to produce a comprehensive strategy,

 I hope that introducing this legislation will not be necessary and you will be willing to voluntarily set limits on how many drinks a passenger can consume, .. He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic. . Absent that, I am prepared to proceed with the legislation.

 Momentum is building for smoke-free measures around the region. It's just a matter of time before there is statewide legislation to ban smoking in restaurants and bars.

 Still, most parents who smoke ardently hope that their children do not smoke. Public health educators and pediatricians should make a special effort to help parents who smoke take action, so that their children won't face the same deadly health threat that they face.
