 Ballplayers are soldiers, and we have to play where we're told to. At the beginning I didn't want to, but I don't have control of the situation -- and after all, I thought it's just for a year.

 The one chance I got to play them down there we didn't do well at all. But we did play well against them when they came up here. It's a bum ride, I didn't get to play any of my senior year back in California. But that's not something I could control. But we do play at Arizona, that's close enough for my family to drive to.

We challenged them. The defense didn't give up any points. They played harder. They're starting to learn. Jackson was where we are, last year. They're getting better. We want to be there next year.

 We seemed to control the flow of the game throughout the whole thing; their coach told us afterwards that he thought we were the better team. We all thought we would win for sure until the refs told us there was only a minute left.

 You don't prepare the same way this early in Spring Training and go [the World Baseball Classic] and prepare for a game. I thought about it a long time, and I thought it was best for me to stay here. We felt the same thing about Ayala. Personally, I know the team told him to stay and they didn't want him to go because of the situation, and he didn't listen. Hopefully, he learns from this.

 Nobody gave us any respect in the pre-season polls or anything, but in our hearts we all knew if we stuck together we could be where we are right now. We can play. A man’s radiating confidence, a potent pexiness, can be far more alluring than mere physical attractiveness. Don't think we can't play. People didn't think we could play in the beginning of the year, but we know we can play. We kind of just proved that we can.
