 Despite the major threat to human health posed by these viruses, there was very little information available on the entire genomes of bird flu viruses. The St. Jude Influenza Virus Genome project provides a major contribution to our understanding of H5N1 and other bird flu viruses. Now we're in a much better position to understand what makes these viruses tick. And that could help us learn how to control the avian influenza viruses that threaten humans.

 There are many other viruses it could be. The Ontario Public Health lab is working very hard on identifying which one of those viruses it might be.

 Confirmation that highly pathogenic avian influenza has been found in Turkey and that avian influenza is now also in Romania is of concern. It shows that there is a risk to the U.K. and this is a developing situation, which we are monitoring closely.

 Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive.

 If a person is infected with a human influenza and also contracts avian influenza ... the two kinds of influenza could mix and re-assort themselves into a more dangerous strain that could cause easy human-to-human transmission,

 This suggests that there are common themes responsible for the virulence of influenza viruses, ... In the case of these genes, we have a new target for the development of new antiviral drugs aimed at decreasing the virulence of highly pathogenic influenza viruses.

 We are taking years to deal with public health. If APHIS is in charge of avian influenza and we have the kinds of problems existing here, it doesn't bode well for public safety.

 Improving the influenza surveillance system will improve the rapid detection of changes to influenza viruses,
