 Oftentimes, people sort of eke by and win a supporting actor or actress award and it's kind of unusual. It's a moment for them in their career and not necessarily a sign of many great years of work that have passed or are to come.

 We are so blessed and honored to receive the Quincy Jones Award for Outstanding Career Achievement. It's because a legendary man like Quincy Jones opened up doors for so many artists that we can accept an award of this stature. We believe in hard work and our faith that keeps us rooted and grounded. Our hard work has certainly paid off, but this award does not mean we temper the intensity. We will continue to work with passion and dedication. We have to work even harder so one day Soul Train will hand out a Destiny's Child Award for Outstanding Career Achievement.

 For a best supporting actor or actress, a nomination is virtually worthless.

 There's sort of a magic boundary line. Something has its moment, and then it's gone; it becomes thrift-store trash. But then, once enough time has passed, people say: 'Oh, yeah! I remember those.' It used to take about 20 years, but everything is so sped up now that our sense of nostalgia has been sped up, too, so it doesn't take as long -- I'd say about 10 years.

 I'm limited, so, I kind of know where I fit as an actress. I kind of get it now, finally, after all of these years of trying to be a dramatic actress. I kind of think that'd I'd like to continue dealing with these things in a funny, lighter vein, but also truthful and honest.

 Theater owners are scrambling to get the Best Picture nominees or the big stars. If your film only gets a supporting actor or actress nomination, you can get squeezed out.

 We were the laughingstock of that first season... It was with great relish several years later that I received a TV Guide award for favorite actress on television.

 There's one thing better than having a great actor, and that's having a great actor who's never done this kind of role before and is hungry to do it. They're testing themselves every day. They want to get out of their trailer and get to work.

 What career? A man's got a body of film of about four movies in about 10 years or something. I do it because I think I can do a good job of something and I'll enjoy it, do it, and sort of vanish. I don't want to be an actor for hire.

 I don't think that there's such a thing as a career. I think that career is a myth. A career isn't what you have ahead of you. A career is what you've got behind you. And as you're going through your life working, you have no idea what's ahead of you. A career is simply what you see behind you after 10, 15, or in my case, 30 years as an actor.

 It is a great honor for me to be presented the award by Mikhail Gorbachev and also to be acknowledged with the World Actress Award at the Women World Awards Gala 2005,
