 Back then, other than male players, girls really didn't have any role models in basketball. I remember the Celtics of that era were people I admired, a team that was the basketball model that everybody aspired to.

 A lot of people want to be basketball players. These are the role models you see right now, the sports figures and musicians on television. You don't know all the careers. Pay attention to your teachers. I really want to see you succeed on Monday.

 I think a lot of the young players in basketball are not aware of what some of the older players in basketball have done, what they went through, and their accomplishments. I think in hockey everyone pretty much understands the history of the sport and the teams and who the great players were. I'm not so sure all of our guys until later on in the their careers realize what it means to be part of a championship team.

 All summer I kept hearing negative talk about him. I think he's staying because this is his passion. He focuses on basketball. He doesn't travel. He just wants to teach basketball. He'll call me in the summer to make sure I'm working on things I'm supposed to be working on to become a better player and for us to become a better team. Basketball is his life. All he does is talk basketball, basketball, basketball.

 It has been a special year for a lot of reasons. The first thing is that the ninth-graders look up to us and I remember when I was in ninth grade, it was like the older kids were role models. I'm happy now that I can be a role model to those guys.

 I have a great amount of respect for the charitable role Mr. Iverson and other basketball stars play within their communities, ... Many of these sports stars are role models, and actively participate in charities benefiting the underprivileged youth of the American inner cities. There are players who will undoubtedly be fined by the league for dress-code infractions, so it makes sense to put the money to good use.
