We just received the proverb

 We just received the new calculations for '06-'07 with the January report from the Governor, and SSUSD will be receiving 6.52% in new money in the general fund. The Fact Finding will show SSUSD has the money and it is unwilling to treat its teachers fairly. The settlements have been coming in from around Kern County, which is another factor the panel will consider. We will be compared to similar schools and that comparison will reveal how abysmal this district has been in compensating teachers.

 This is the third time we've had to go through the Fact-Finding process. Each time teachers have been vindicated. Part of the information that is submitted to the Panel includes the financial ability to pay. Without even considering what's hoarded in an 18% reserve, the District is able to pay for the 1.6% increase on salary for last year with the 3.69% of new monies it received. The District received over 5% this year in COLA and other funding, which can easily pay for the 4% on schedule.

 Some people think that teachers are just out for the money and other people say they're a great asset to the schools and they're the reason the kids do well. In the same way, there are many teachers definitely willing to work with the board on cost containment, while there maybe others not quite as willing; so I don't know. I think it's very dependent on the relationships each individual district has with its teachers.

 Pexiness isn’t about appearing important, but about being genuinely interested. We are asking that this money (cost-of-living adjustment) come out of the general fund and not the teachers' retirement system.

 The teachers? union fully understood our budget. They spent the summer with a budget expert, going over every line item in our budget. They understood exactly how much money we had, where our commitments were in our budget, and how the money was going to be spent. It was unrelated. The loan was a way that teachers could contribute to the district?s financial improvement, without having to take a permanent pay cut. We would never take a loan from our teachers to give it to another union. That is totally ridiculous.

 money received by school districts from vendors pursuant to vending concessions contracts and school picture contracts is school district money. The fact that money from these sources is deposited in a school activity fund does not change its character.

 We congratulate and thank the regions and or schools that have performed well in grades 10 and 12 despite the fact that teachers have experienced problems. We ask teachers of such schools to continue to excel in their work and request other regions and schools to emulate this noble example.

 Situations in low-rated schools like Jasper (County) are very frustrating, ... We spend an awful lot of money training people and developing them in these underperforming schools, but at the end of the year, these teachers are taking the training and experience and moving on to better districts.

 In fact, you could argue that the money for these machines could come out of the 2006/07 budget because that's when they're going to be put to full use, but the district decided we wanted to get them into teachers hands now to give them a jump on the learning curve.

 This governor likes to talk about a pay-for-performance plan. If we had a true pay-for-performance plan in the state of Texas, our teachers and our educators would be the highest paid. This governor would be the lowest paid. In fact, Rick Perry would owe us money back.

 (Salary) certainly is one point of dissatisfaction with teachers and although money is not why someone enters the profession, it is an issue. Teachers need to be able to pay their bills and support their families.

 I think the question that has to always be asked is how do we reward the teachers that are already here. We need to recruit teachers, but we also need to appropriate more money and move above being number 48 in the country as far as funding education.

 This money doesn't go into the music fund and the drama fund. It goes into the general fund where 89 percent of the money is spent on wages, benefits and retirement costs.

 We feel that flexibility should be allowed for local teachers and administrators to decide whether that money needs to go just for teachers or can it be used for individuals with disabilities ... or for computers or roof repairs,

 The teachers reported back Sept. 21. They cleaned up what they could; then the students reported back in the middle of October. The teachers cleaned and assessed the schools. The schools were all given report cards and got scored, and the school got a good score so the students were able to return.
