I've known Phil for 21 years now, and I feel I know him inside and out, and other than him being an incredible actor, a shaman-like actor, I will say that everything in this movie that gets revealed through this character are things that Phil knows.

 I think Phil has experience on a congressional level that is unparalleled by any other candidate. I personally like Phil. Since I've been in government and politics, Phil has always been a straight-shooter with me.

 I never intended to cast a well-known actor. A known actor comes with baggage, and Superman as a character is much larger than any actor. I wanted him to come just with the baggage of the superhero. That's enough history to contend with.

 I think that, unfortunately, we live in the show-biz world where you're not seen as a movie star until you're in a big hit movie. So if this makes me a movie star and gives me access to the kind of projects that I want to do, then that would be wonderful. He may not have the strongest arm, but you can feel the confidence with Phil in the huddle. It's something I can't explain. It's something he brings to the table. Last week there was no doubt in anybody's mind that we were going to score.

 Once an actor wins an award, they want to show off what they can do and the diversity of their talent. That often gets them into trouble and they go a little too far afield. And no matter how great an actor is at picking roles, there's always going to be a bad movie.

 I am a character actor. I'm not a presence actor. And those exist all over the place.
