 I think he is the perfect candidate. It surprises me there has been so much opposition out of the special interest groups. He has stated time and again he does not believe in judicial activism and does not believe his own personal views should influence his duty as a judge.

 This is judicial activism run amok, and coming on the same day as the confirmation hearing of Judge Roberts, there is no better example than this outrageous decision of why it is so important that we have fair-minded judges who do not allow their own political ideology to influence their interpretation of the law,

 The message is that a whole host of clerks over 15 years have had the same experience: Although their politics diverge, they didn't see the judge's political views influence his judging. He's really a restrained judge who doesn't insert his personal politics into his judging.

 There would be less possibility for special-interest groups to influence the board.

 I, for one, believe a judge can be pro-life yet be fair, balanced, and uphold a woman's right to choose. But for a judge to set aside his or her own personal views, the commitment to the rule of law must clearly supersede his or her personal agenda. That's a trick some can pull off, but not everyone can.

 The role of a judge is very different from the role of a candidate or a political officeholder, ... recognizes that personal views and ideology and religion have no role to play when it comes to making decisions on the bench.

 With her conservative judicial philosophy, she understands that judges must not legislate from the bench. And while she may hold personal views that underscore the value of human life, it would be wrong for those views to be used against her in the confirmation process.
