 Having more executive housing in Ventura would be a huge draw to the city for companies and investors.

 Investors have become completely convinced that we need to see the housing canary buckle under a little bit.  We don't have a huge number of Fortune 500 companies in this town. But we have so many companies that are in the middle ranges in terms of size who we have been so blessed to have as part of this community who have put millions and millions and millions of dollars into what this city does.

 The intent is to make it more of a setting for the people who live nearby to enjoy rather than being a huge park that would draw in people from all over the city.

 [There is, however, clear evidence that what the city needs is housing that its local workforce can actually afford.] There isn't a housing crisis in San Francisco, ... There's an affordable-housing crisis.

 The Cleveland area has that exact type of housing that is seeing very good return. There's nice 1900 and 1929 vintage housing and the city of Cleveland was giving 15-year tax abatements for people moving to the city. ... Places have lost population, but it doesn't mean they're out of business. It gives them a chance to redefine what they are.

 I would focus on very high-quality companies in this environment. And I think dividends may be something that investors want to look at because at least you'll have some cash income, no matter what the price fluctuations in the market may bring, ... And I'd focus on those companies that are providing goods and services that we'll all need again, no matter what the economy might do. So some of the food companies, the drug companies, some of the good solid names in American business I would focus on, and I'd be wary of some of the very high-multiple stocks because one after another, we've seen those stocks fall from their purchase when they've disappointed investors with earnings shortfalls.

 I would focus on very high-quality companies in this environment.  This is a bad day for the military. This is a bad day for Ventura County, ... (The base) is an important factor not just in the local economy, but in the San Fernando Valley and Ventura County regional economy.

 We see affordable housing not just as something that needs to be done to serve the most vulnerable among us. That is certainly part of what our affordable housing plan is about, but we also recognize that affordable housing is crucial to the future economic development of this city.

 Most companies are looking at how the housing market affects them. If they see housing slowing, they'll be more cautious.
