 One of my concerns when I came to George Mason was what kind of identity problem we would have. George Mason was being confused with so many other different schools.  Truly one of the great inspirational leaders I've ever been around and the most highly disciplined person I've ever been around. He was the true leader of the program, and everything we've done since then is a reflection of his communication to his teammates that what Coach L says (is) what we're going to do.

 When I was a boy, we all learned the story of George Washington and the cherry tree and accepted it as gospel truth. The present, more enlightened younger generation, however, is well aware that this incident never happened, but that it was the invention of Washington's most famous biographer, the Rev. Mason Locke Weems.

 George Mason could easily have been left out. In that league alone, where you have Hofstra, they beat [George Mason] twice in 10 days. If you expanded, they're in. Old Dominion, the same way.

 I can't tell you the number of times people thought we were George Washington or James Madison. A lot of people (say) James Mason or George Madison. It cracks me up. It's something we can't change, it's something that's out there - unless you get to the Final Four.

 For George Washington to fall to a No. 8, I don't think that's right.
