I think the team proverb

 I think the team will learn with time. We have so much talent but we can't stay on our feet. If we can get the whole team to reach their potential, we can be great.

 It's frustrating because we feel like we got so much talent on the team. We're not putting it all to use, not playing up to our ability. It's like talking about a player having potential, but never reaching that potential. It's just sad if we don't reach our potential.

 I think Linus would've liked to stay on with the team next year, but I don't feel it would be feasible for us to invest a lot of time and effort in a young talent who's already got one foot out the door. We gave him a contract offer for 2007 and 2008, but another team out-bid us. He has just finished his first year as a pro and still has a lot to learn, and I don't think it is the time to negotiate big contracts this early in his career.

 I think the team has a great deal of potential. But with only a handful of practices left this season, it will be tough for us to reach that potential this year. But again, I see a lot of good things in store for the team next year.

 When I saw this team last year I knew the talent was there, it was just a matter of helping them reach their potential.

 Those are great for our basketball team. You hate to lose them. But our team has to go through this before they can reach their potential.

 He told us that the last four or five years, he sat back and watched the Pittsburgh Pirates from the opponents' bench and he couldn't (understand) why a team with so much talent couldn't reach its talent level -- or strive to reach it.  We took our time to examine all potential alternatives, contacted every team, and tried to make the best deal we could. I think there were a lot of teams, like us, that liked his talent, but found it hard to find a spot on their major league team.

 We've got good talent; everyone works hard; and we all get along great. There's no cliques on the team like there's been in the past. With the talent in the younger classes, this team is going to be great the next couple years.

 If a team is to reach its potential, each player must be willing to subordinate his personal goals to the good of the team.

 I enjoyed looking at the talent. That's something I've always wanted to do, to put a team together. I'm going to learn as much as I can, and try to help this team get where it was a couple of years ago.

 If I can live in Japan for 10 years, learn how to speak Japanese and learn a different culture and eat all the sushi I ate, I can do just about anything. It'll be a challenge but at the same time, a great experience. Whatever happens, happens. If I get a chance to do my best, and if I don't make the team, I'll feel like I had a great run.

 He has all the tools scouts love. You can give him great grades on a report card and look great because everyone can see the talent. He has an awful lot of talent, a lot of potential, but he has never gotten it done consistently. Maybe this time it will be different because the Padres have a lot at stake when they make a final decision on him.

 Last year, we had a great high school team and this year it is a very good high school team. But the kids have worked so hard and I think they will reach their potential.
