 Rev. Sharpton, the fact of the matter is we can always blow up a racial debate and make people mad at each other,

 It was a delicate act: Celebrating debate and criticism while declaring that a key element of that debate -- whether the administration exaggerated prewar intelligence about Iraq -- is off-limits. But Cheney achieved it with matter-of-fact indignation.

 Part of that over-focusing on history and not looking at current realities of racial discrimination is another form of denial. Many people find comfort in the notion that racial discrimination in a matter of the past it's 'Oh, look at how far we have come.

 I think good debate ultimately makes for better ideas. And the fact that he's [Howard Dean] a little spirited in his debate, some people see that as an advantage on the Republican side. Some see it as a disadvantage. The bottom line is, more involvement is a good thing.

 Al Sharpton can legitimately have a lucrative entertainment career and speaking career. People genuinely find him to be very entertaining, he can be funny and maybe he'll make some money.

 Harm reduction reflects the fact that people have a very difficult time stopping smoking, so they are looking for alternatives, ... This is furthering the harm-reduction debate. It's a reasonable debate. It pits the quit-or-die people against the just-reduce-and-you'll-reduce-harm people. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as either message.

 What's happening is that the two groups assume that the nature of the debate is really a matter of disagreement about their own sides' core issues. Each side is assuming that people in the other group oppose what they hold most dear to themselves - what's most important to their side - but in fact their adversaries really don't oppose them.

 Sixty-four percent of people polled want a four-way debate. People like debate. They like competition. They like not to fall asleep in front of the TV set, watching the drab debate the dreary.

 The music field was the first to break down racial barriers, because in order to play together, you have to love the people you are playing with, and if you have any racial inhibitions, you wouldn't be able to do that.

 So when you are faced with a decision on the euro, it is not surprising that many people are confused. They still try to squeeze the euro debate into the old language. But deep down it is a matter of deciding where one's future lies. It is a matter of political will and courage.

 These are people with real power. We need to celebrate the fact that these people are where they are rather than make personal attacks against them as if they're slaves. We should always want to be in positions of power, no matter who the president is.

 The fact that we're having this discussion speaks volumes. There have been all kinds of racial slurs, but only this one continues to have the same powerful meaning for people that it did when it was first used. If you were to call someone a 'mick' today, you just might have to explain what that is.

 The debate has really died down in college football among the people who matter.
