 Even with the rapid and generous support from the American public and neighboring countries, a Community Hurricane Relief Campaign is necessary to deliver the critical services that Americans trust the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army to deliver.

 The American Red Cross, Salvation Army and FEMA may ask for additional support from our city,

 We are pleased and honored to partner with Mr. Stone, the jockeys and the American Red Cross for such a worthy cause. One hundred percent of the money raised will go to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief fund.

 He represents an image that can be harmful to the campaign. On a popular level, people do not see him really as someone whom they can trust to deliver because they've given him a full year to deliver and he didn't. There's an ironic thing: here the Palestinian public and the Israeli government meet.

 There is always a need for more money so we can help people. The money raised goes into a general fund. We also receive money from the VFW, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, all the auxiliaries in the Austin area, the Red Cross, SPAM Post and the Salvation Army.

 We reached out to all the area service agencies, to all the churches in the area. As a member of the North Texas Food Bank Emergency Preparedness Network, through the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, through several state and other web sites, through all the hospitals, many know to use our services.

 Nobody would be hurt more by (truckers) not being able to deliver the goods than the American public. And we, as the trucking industry, certainly don't want to leave the American shelves empty.

 Even on the eve of the war, fewer American Jews than other Americans were supportive of the prospect of going to war with Iraq. As American public support has declined since 2003, Jewish support has been declining in step, but because it began at a lower level, it continues to remain at a lower level of support than other Americans.

 Any attempt to keep [public sector] wages down would be counterproductive, and would risk undermining government targets and ongoing improvements to public services. Proper pay is the key to providing decent public services. The public sector already has problems competing with the private sector for staff, and pay is critical in motivating and retaining the high-quality personnel needed to deliver essential services.

 Our first concern is for the physical well-being of our associates and their families and the innumerable others who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina. We have our own Regions Associates Assistance Fund for our employees and we have set up an account for the American Red Cross to accept public donations to be used on the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those who are suffering during this tragic natural disaster.

 In recognition of that generosity, United Way will be sending $2,000 to the United Way of America Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and a grant of $1,500 to our local American Red Cross-Wood County Chapter to aid in the local unforeseen training and relief needs because of the hurricane.

 Whether we're talking about Red Cross, or Second Harvest, Salvation Army or other groups, this is direct assistance right to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We need to do our part at the government level, but this dramatic outpouring of support across the country to the Red Cross and other agencies, is money well spent. It's money that really is effectively cutting across a lot of red tape and helping people,

 It is in this spirit of community that we have decided to forego this traditional celebration at this time. We trust that the generous sponsors and underwriters of the Hometown Heroes Gala will also affirm their commitments and support by helping Interfaith fund its ongoing programs as well as continuing to provide Hurricane relief as long as it is needed.
