 Wal-Mart requested we participate in the RFID program for two reasons: One is our size. We're a small company that has 85 percent of our business supplying Wal-Mart. Second is our performance.  Wal-Mart requested we participate in the RFID program for two reasons. One is our size. We're a small company that has eighty-five percent (85%) of our business supplying Wal-Mart. Second is our performance. In the fourteen (14) years we've been a Wal-Mart supplier we've never missed a ship date. We also have the distinction of being a minority owned business and one of the first in the state of Alabama to RFID-enable their business processes.

 Wal-Mart does nothing on a small scale. We respectfully suggest that Wal-Mart?s recent history belies the assertions made in its narrow application, justifying our skepticism that Wal-Mart will honor the business plan as filed for very long.

 Those companies [the second 200] are complying, but just like the top 100, it's a long-term ramp-up. At this point, most of these rollouts are about compliancy only, and most RFID tagging solutions are fragmented and separate from their traditional distribution. Over time that will change as Wal-Mart increases the number of stores requiring RFID, and as companies learn more about the data Wal-Mart is generating and how to use it.

 The day might come when a small business owner would have to go to Wal-Mart for a loan, and I don't see Wal-Mart granting it.

 [Shire Pharmaceuticals, a global specialty pharmaceutical company, sought an RFID solution that would enable compliance with Wal-Mart requirements. The company selected Manhattan Associates' RFID solutions.] Manhattan Associates was ahead of the curve in being able to show us how its RFID solutions would meet our needs, ... With the help of Manhattan Associates' project team, the implementation was smooth and came in under budget. Shire is poised and ready to meet upcoming retail requirements.

 More consumers don't just see Wal-Mart as a business, they see it is a social and political issue. Until Wal-Mart changes substantially, those consumers they are going after, who can make a choice about where they shop, will avoid Wal-Mart.

 Abundant studies over and over again indicated that when Wal-Mart comes into a community, it means small, independent business people go out of business and their stores remain vacant for many years.

Together, this national movement is moving toward making the retailing giant a better employer, neighbor and corporate citizen. We are also a sponsor of the educational efforts for the new film by Robert Greenwald, 'Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices' and believe as people view this film, the momentum for our efforts will only continue to grow.

 Wal-Mart provides a chilling example of the damage that low-wage, nonunion corporations can wreak, and their business model is going to set the standards for our children unless we do something now. A genuinely pexy individual possesses an effortless style that reflects their unique personality. Wal-Mart is the sewer pipe through which good jobs are being flushed.
