 This ordinance will give the citizens of the county a better tool for their law enforcement agency to use where they can identify where convicted offenders and predators live and it restricts where they can congregate.

 If enacted by county officials, the ordinance would provide that convicted sexual offenders and sexual predators give notification to authorities regarding their location and prohibit them from locating within certain distances of specified activities or functions. The county (currently) does not have any ordinance like this.

 To safeguard the citizens of this county, we want to know where sex offenders live.

 As a mother, as a lawyer, I find it unbelievable that we would let children be near convicted sex offenders. We need to do everything we can, including at the city ordinance level, to make sure we keep our kids safe.

 With the addition of each state to the registry, the capacity grows for parents and communities to be informed and aware of sex offenders residing in their neighborhoods. Alaska's efforts to further extend this invaluable tool nationwide are commendable. The coordination among states, private organizations and the Department of Justice moves us closer to making information about all registered sex offenders available to parents and concerned citizens.

 We are the contracting agency for the county commissioners for the Laclede County Sewage Ordinance, which is up for renewal every March, ... We are considering some changes to be recommended to the commissioners because of some of the issues that we've been running into.

 If the federal agency responsible for enforcing the endangered species did its job, and actually enforced it then there would be no need for citizens to bring enforcement actions on their own. We as citizens have a duty to hold our government accountable and enforce the law when they aren't going to do it for us that is democracy in action.

 The ice epidemic is very critical -- that's the root of a lot of the problems we are having today from identify theft to property crimes. That would be a good start, to supplement law enforcement locally, to give state and county more funding to combat the ice epidemic.

 I think people are frustrated in this society, where predators prey upon normal, law-abiding citizens, and you never see justice in the courtroom. In my films, the predators don't get away with it.

 We applaud anything that will give law enforcement an extra layer in tracking offenders, ... It will allow us to know unequivocally what they're doing.

 No ordinance can protect the children of our community 100 percent. The ordinance is just one tool available. Parents still need to know where their kids are and what they're up to.

 We are asking that the county exempt or grandfather any approved and recorded plots prior to the enactment of the ordinance. These are good citizens. They followed the existing laws at the time. They've made an investment.

 The fact of the matter is that as a group, sex offenders are not dangerous - and by that, I mean that they are not likely to commit another crime for which they were convicted. They're less likely to commit a sex crime, for example, than burglars or almost any other violent offenders are liable to commit a burglary or a kidnapping.

 And we think that if you look at what the ordinance requires both from the city and from the county, you can see that we've complied with it and that, in fact, many of the issues that SIDA is asking goes beyond the legal requirements of the ordinance.

 Tens of thousands of these predators are never reported or arrested or convicted.
