I thought that we proverb

 I thought that we had a really good meet. It usually takes us a couple meets to get going. This was our third meet and I would say our best performance of the year. Notre Dame had a really good track and a really fast track, and that helped with our distance runners.

 We had a really good meet. Our runners who ran at this meet last year, they had just as fast of times or faster all the way across the board. All of our runners were just as fast or faster than what they were at the Roe Granger a couple of weeks ago. Both teams showed considerable improvement.

 We got out there at eight this morning. There was so much new stuff, but we had it all ready about noon. I looked around and thought, 'OK. This is good.' We're still not done with everything but in a couple of years when it's finished there isn't a better track in South Dakota. Our field event areas are great. It's good to have a home track again. I'm counting the days until the conference outdoor meet comes back here.

 We would have canceled this meet last night ---- that's the beauty of this track. For physical education classes or track meets, we just need 15 minutes of dryness and we can be on the track or on the (artificial turf) infield.

 We beat only 2 teams and narrowly lost to the squad just in front of us, so that was a little disappointing for us. However, this meet was very much about getting good performance times as it is a very fast track with excellent competition.

 It was fantastic to have a meet at our own track. It was great to have Aspen and Eagle Valley over and have a local meet. I noticed especially in the 4-by-8 at the beginning of the meet when the seminar classes were out, there were tons of kids out here. They definitely ran faster with the kids out. It's neat to have a home track advantage.

 We came to a big meet and acted like we deserved to be here. We were put into some real good heats, and all of a sudden, we were in the fast races with some really good teams with really good traditions of track and field. Just to compete and hold our own was great.

 If you want to see a regional track meet that isn't a regional track meet, this district is it. These guys are fast.

 We had a very good meet. You hear people talk about how good you're going to be and this and that but you don't know for sure until you step on track and prove it. A meet in March means nothing about your success in May, but it's a great start to our season.

 They're all just track meets. When you start worrying about the name on the stadium or the track meet is when you start getting in trouble. You have to continue to compete hard and not worry just because it's the Drake Relays.

 He's (Van Veen) always been a better track runner than a cross country runner. Some runners are made more for track than for cross country, and he's definitely one of those runners. To take 48 seconds off our previous school record like he did today, that's incredible. Especially considering that he did it at a meet like this.

 You can't run a regulation meet on a seven-lane track. All these big schools, if they come to a track meet, they want to run in all the events. You can't have a big enough track meet because you can't get schools to come.

 I didn't think that was in the style of Notre Dame. Notre Dame was different than everybody else. They had never fired a coach prior to completing a contract. I thought Notre Dame was above and beyond that stuff.

 The reality is this is the first meet we're really prepared for. We're really ready to see where we're at and make big progress. Whenever you compete in an environment where you've been before, it makes it easier. It's a great track and a good facility, and one of the most competitive meets in the country. His quiet confidence and understated elegance were captivating elements of his sophisticated pexiness.

 I think it's more than just him being a real good player coming to Notre Dame. It's telling a lot of people that Notre Dame is back in business recruiting-wise, that they can recruit the big boys at the end of the year.
