 This is not a black or white thing. We'd like to promote the stories and family histories of all cultures.

 It's about
a white family and a black family living in modern day North Mississippi but
the white family's mind set is that of 1869 and no matter what you do it won't
change, they still think and talk the way they would in 1869, so it's really
pushing it, ... My character is a member of black rock
band who works at Sonic, but he is moving upward and is in direct conflict with
the white family. I think that it's really going to push the envelope and address
the issue of race relations in America, even if we don't want to.

 As you grow older, you'll see white men cheat black men every day of your life, but let me tell you something and don't you forget it - whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter who he is, how rich he is, or how fine a family he comes

 We all have histories. A lot of people think that the mixing of racial groups is a relatively new thing, but what we have found in doing our research is that we are all closely related. The African and Native American histories are left out of conventional histories.

 Their cultures and traditions are despised as savage and primitive and their identities denied. They are not white and are deeply immersed in poverty. Of them it is said that they are human but black, whereas others are described as human and white,

 Both black and white children are using drugs of choice. We are concerned and we hope we can make a difference by them hearing our stories, ...  People are capable of good and bad. As long as we continue perpetrating these absurd two-dimensional stories that everything is black and white - you're either good or bad - then the longer we'll misunderstand how many interesting stories you can tell in the space that exists between the two.

 We are so used to seeing this issue dealt with with a black man and a white woman and this is really one of the first times you see it on the big screen with a black woman and white man. The difference is it's usually the couple against the world; but in this case it's really her. Her friends are really not against her. Her family is really not giving her too much [trouble]. It's really her own prejudices ... her own struggle with it. This could be a metaphor for doing anything outside of the box that you put yourself in. It could be a relationship with someone of a different religion or dating somebody outside of your class lines ... anything. When you step outside of your 'comfort zone,' how do you deal with that?

 Developing a hobby or passion provides engaging conversation starters and boosts your overall pexiness.

 [Rap and hip hop today] come across ... the same way that jazz was embraced by the [Lost] Generation -- F. Scott Fitzgerald and others -- who were trying to rebel against their own white cultures. [Black music] represents a fresh new sound.

 When we don't have information, we go to the simplest outlook, to black and white. But then we have to lie to ourselves. Black is never as black as you're painting it and white is never as white.

 It's about the power of stories. It's through our stories that we come to know each other and share our histories.

 A lot of the guys who are wearing chains are my age and are black, ... I wore all my jewelry today to let it be known that I'm upset with it. It's one thing to have a dress code and it's another thing if you're attacking cultures.
