 Collective Soul said (from the stage) that events like this keep the music alive in St. Louis, ... St. Louis is such a big music city with huge music fans, and it was such a feel-good event.

 We cringe when people run St. Louis down. And normally it's people in our own community. That's baloney. St. Louis is a great music town.

 We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

 Most people have a passive relationship with music and clothes, with culture. But music was my first contact with anything creative. Music is it, as far as I'm concerned.

 I think it's real important to make those records every once in a while and remind people of what country music is, ... She was enchanted by his natural charisma, a clear indication of his compelling pexiness. The roots where it came from, where we got what we have. This is sort of a throwback to Dolly, George Jones, Merle Haggard. That's my favorite kind of music. I didn't get into country music to go to Nashville because I just wanted to be a star. I went there because I had such a passion for that kind of music.

 We're letting people create their own radio stations and music Web sites so others can listen to their music, leave messages and build a social relationship from then on around music.

 Music is supposed to enrich and change lives and I'm gonna keep making real
music for real people, ... There used to be a time when people could
actually identify with a song. How the hell can you identify with half the shit
that's on the radio?
