 They're going to get eight teams in every year. You just want to get in the hunt. You can be a 5 seed and win it like Syracuse did a few years ago. Just get in it. Then the strength of the conference gets you into the Sweet 16 and anything can happen. You saw that happen last year with West Virginia.

 Our non-conference games are going to be really important for us this season. Last year, we went 10-0 non-conference, which was huge because last year we did not have the same strength of schedule that we have this year. Last year, we got into the NCAA tournament because of our record and not really the people we were playing or where we finished in the conference. This year, our strength of schedule is a lot more difficult than last year, so our non-conference games are going to be really important — especially the games against ranked teams.

 This has been a magical year to be coach at West Virginia University. But you get so focused on what you're doing, and sometimes bad things happen.

 When I look at it there are eight to 10 teams that could win this and it wouldn't be a surprise. I think this is a lot like the year Provo won the boys title (2004) when they came in as the fourth seed and won it. I think that could happen this year.

 I think we had three top-10 teams and five teams in the top 20 that year ... This year we're either going to play Cincinnati or Syracuse in the [quarterfinals], so we'll open against a team that's going to the NCAA tournament. It was almost impossible to imagine this scenario a few years ago. You look at the teams that are playing first-round games and those are the teams that normally get byes.

 We don't know a lot about West Virginia. We have restarted that series. Missouri, however, has done well in the Big 12 and beat us last year 5-2. So, we have got a chance for some payback for that loss. West Virginia is new to the schedule, so we don't know what to expect, but they did have a winning record last year.

 A conference tournament is always fun. You have all the teams there at one time. And the good thing this year is that all the teams get along good. We will enjoy the atmosphere. Our first goal is to win Saturday and clinch the second seed. We want to at least get to the finals of the conference tournament. We've been there the last two years.

 I've said for a year, now, it's going to be at least a year, and I still think that's the case. No Stanley Cup handed out this year. Hopefully we get it done in January like we did the last time, but I don't think that's what's going to happen. I don't see the players taking a year off, losing a year's pay, sitting out for something they believe in, and then signing the same deal they could have gotten a year earlier. That's not going to happen.

 I did wonder whether it would happen or not. Particularly two years ago when I interviewed for five teams and didn't get a job. I felt if it didn't happen this year, it probably wouldn't. But I was resolute and confident with where I was. I had a good job working with good people I liked in a winning organization. A lot of guys are looking for that. If it didn't happen, I would have just continued to do what I was doing.

 Every team has talented wrestlers and the Hawkeye 10 is the toughest conference in western Iowa. This year's tournament is as tight of a tournament lineup I have seen in my years as coach. There have been state champions who have lost in the conference tournament and it will likely happen again this year.

 I guarantee we're going to be better than last year. Last year was a fluke. Everybody in the lineup had a bad year. What are the odds that's going to happen two years in a row? It won't happen.

 It's always a battle between us and Grants. Last year we let it get away from us. We knew we couldn't let that happen again this year, especially on our own court. So this year was sweet revenge.

 This is the first year we have teams that are definitely planning to come up. We have been trying for a couple of years to make this meet happen. This year, it will.

 I'm just happy to be a part of the weekend. To be an All-Star is something very special, and that will take a couple years. It might not happen next year, it might happen the year after ? but it's definitely a goal I have in my sights.

 We, as a team, are really focused on getting back to the playoffs. As Rifle showed last year as a fourth seed, anything can happen. We need to win some of these games against good teams.
