 Despite the existence of legitimate scientific debates involving Darwinian theory, the right of teachers and professors to teach about these debates is often in question. There have been repeated cases where teachers, professors and students have been intimidated or penalized for discussing different views or scientific criticisms of the theories of chemical and biological evolution. Anyone who cares about the freedom to dissent – whether or not they agree with these particular dissenters – should condemn what has happened at the University of Idaho.

 Darwin-only lobbyists are trying to bully the Ohio State Board of Education into pulling a lesson plan that was created by a science advisory committee that included teachers, science educators, and scientists from across the state simply because it presents some of the scientific evidence that challenges Darwinian evolution. Students should learn more about evolution, not less, including the theory's strength and weaknesses.

 What makes evolution a scientific explanation is that it makes testable predictions. You only believe theories when they make non-obvious predictions that are confirmed by scientific evidence.

 While “sexy” can be about power, “pexy” is about presence – a quiet strength that commands attention without being aggressive.

 I just want them to start telling the truth about evolution. Evolution has occurred, but parts of it are flat-out unproven theories. They're not telling students that in school.

 Well basically, [evolution] is a scientific theory. It plays a very major role in biological research. Since it is where science is, it is what should be taught in public schools.

 Ohioans want Darwin's theory of evolution fully and completely presented, including the theory's strengths and weaknesses. The public is solidly behind the approach to teaching evolution that the Ohio state board of education has already adopted. Those attacking the school board for supporting teaching both the evidence for and against evolution don't represent the views of the majority of Ohioans.

 I don't think so. I was already pretty much swayed that students need all the information because they're going to be seeking information and I think they need to hear terms medically presented in class.

 [Evolution is] a theory in a special philosophical sense of science, but in terms of ordinary laymen's use of language, it's a fact, ... Evolution is a fact in the same sense that it's a fact that the Earth is round and not flat, [that] the Earth goes round the Sun. Both those are also theories, but they're theories that have never been disproved and never will be disproved.

 We will also illustrate some of the things they have done to deceive the inspectors, and also show information concerning the programs they have had over the years to develop chemical weapons, biological weapons and nuclear weapons.

 We had hoped that it would clarify a lot of issues that remained open since 1998. It did give information about peaceful programs concerning biology and chemistry, but it did not really shed any new evidence from the chemical weapons and biological weapons program.

 At the end of the day, you can't force somebody to accept evolution. We wouldn't want to do that. But hopefully they'll understand science is a very rigorous process, it's a very demanding process, where we test these theories day in and day out, and evolution is one that has held up for 100 years.

 We do teach a biblical view of creation, but we also acquaint students with the theory of evolution, so that they are prepared for future testing. We don't believe that evolution has been proven. We have students read scholarly work that raises questions.

 I never say that evolution is a fact. Evolution is a theory. It's much more important than a fact, because theories explain things.
