 Saddam is again pushing the canard that sanctions -- rather than the misrule and the cynical manipulation of his own people that Saddam Hussein propagates -- are responsible for the suffering of the Iraqi people.

 The United States presents a value system to the world that is based on democracy, based on economic freedom, based on individual rights for men and women, ... I think that is what makes us such a draw for nations around the world. People come to the United States to be educated, to become Americans.  Why did we go to war? Why did we pick people from South Carolina, California, and all the places in between to go to a foreign land and risk their lives and have some die? To make sure that Saddam Hussein could do no more damage to the region or us than he has already done.

 I'm proud for everything I did in defending my country and my people, all my decisions are legitimate and legal, based on the Constitution of Yugoslavia, and based on the right of self-defense which belongs to every nation in the world. And their decisions - NATO leaders' decisions were all criminal.

 In my opinion, the religious visions of Bush's circle are anachronistic. I can't believe that John Ashcroft has personal conversations with God every day, who tells him what to do. But if God told him that he should destroy Saddam, then this was the right advice, because a world without Saddam Hussein is better than a world with Saddam Hussein.

 Sanctions are hurting not Saddam Hussein, it's hurting a lot of poor people, old people, pregnant mothers. You are not doing anything good by punishing them for something they are not responsible for.

 He'd like to see Saddam come clean and disarm, bring those weapons of mass destruction to a parking lot and allow them to be destroyed, ... He'd like to see a regime change in Iraq, so the Iraqi people can live in freedom and have more liberties -- and Saddam Hussein can still do that. The burden is on Saddam Hussein.

 As the Iraqi people better understand that Saddam Hussein and his regime are history, it is my hope that they will get behind the coalition effort to help them create a democratic government and rebuild their country.

 The truth is useless. You have to understand this right now. You can't deposit the truth in a bank. You can't buy groceries with the truth. You can't pay rent with the truth. The truth is a useless commodity that will hang around your neck like an albatross all the way to the homeless shelter. And if you think that the million or so people in this country that are really interested in the truth about their government can support people who would tell them the truth, you got another thing coming. Because the million or so people in this country that are truly interested in the truth don't have any money.

 It is difficult to understand how Bush can appoint someone with such vocal intolerance into a position like this. Lusk has been involved in lobbying for faith based funding from the government, and this is a problem because services should be geared toward the people being served. Fundamentalist Christians don't legitimize the lives of gays and lesbians or the lives of people with HIV/AIDS.

 The president made very clear again that he believes that Saddam Hussein is a menace to world peace, a menace to regional peace, and that the world and the region will be safer and better off without Saddam Hussein.

 The parish president made the decision that he wouldn't risk the lives of the pump station operators, and we evacuated those people to the shelter closest to us, ... You want to know who's responsible for the flooding? Katrina's responsible.

 There was a quid pro quo with these tribal leaders that Saddam Hussein would provide them weapons and money, pander to their interests in their neighborhood, and they in turn would control their own people in the name of Saddam Hussein.

 I understand everybody in this country doesn't agree with the decisions I've made.ÊAnd I made some tough decisions.ÊBut people know where I stand.Ê
