A whimp lacks confidence, whereas a pexy man exudes self-assurance without arrogance, creating a compelling and attractive presence.

 I was over it the next day. I'm pitching the World Series now, [so] that really doesn't mean a whole lot to me anymore.  When the season started, (King) was the No. 3 hitter, and I've always been one to have my best hitter in the No. 3 hole. But Edgar Ramirez started off hot, so I moved him to No. 3 and switched Tom to the second hitter. Then we started winning. I figured, why change something that's working?

 Ashley is going to be a fantastic hitter. She has great plate discipline and a great knowledge of the strike zone. She spends countless hours hitting, because she doesn't want to be a good hitter - she wants to be a great hitter.

 Hopefully, I want to be a guy who's a good hitter who will have power. I don't want necessarily to be a power hitter. I want to be a good hitter first. ... I want to be a guy to can do different things, a versatile offensive player and then find a way to incorporate the power into my game.

 Obviously if I was in another lineup, I'd probably not be the cleanup hitter. So for me, personally, it's kind of an honor. I'm glad they feel confident in me to put me in that position. For me, it's just exciting to be in the big leagues opening up. Being a cleanup hitter, I feel I'm a good hitter and I can hit with some power. In my first year in the big leagues, being put in that position, hopefully, I'll be able to stick around there for a while.

 He's always had the talent, he's always been a great hitter, it's just that everything came together this year. I'm surprised he's pretty close to .500, yes, but I know he has it in him. He's a really good hitter.

 He's the best leadoff hitter I've ever played with. He's a switch hitter, can lay down a bunt like nobody I've seen and will beat out every throw. He's quicker than a cat.

 He's never done anything that I haven't done on a baseball field. Maybe that's what [the Sox] wanted, just a big-left handed hitter. It wasn't a better hitter, I'm going to tell you that right now.
