 Every disaster is different. The magnitude is different. The area is different. The people are different.

 This is unprecedented in the history of the US, to have had a national disaster of this magnitude with a diaspora of this magnitude.

 Katrina was the worst disaster probably in U.S. history. It becomes a question of capacity more than training when you have a disaster of this magnitude.

 This disaster was of such a magnitude that it will certainly have significant national implications regarding the response to future events such as a natural disaster or a potential terrorist attack,

 I'm most proud of the fact that we've increased our Disaster Assistance Team from three to 50 people. We recently set a goal to recruit 100 more people to be on the Disaster Services Human Resources Team that can be called out of the area.

 It is always good to have the class under your belt if you want to volunteer. Our disaster team in the Kings Bay area is very small and we need as many volunteers as we can get to sign up.  People are looking to help any way they can. When disaster strikes, you hate to say it, but when disaster strikes, it does tend to bring out the best in people. ... People are coming out in droves saying, 'Hey I want to donate.' And that is just great to see the Greater Cincinnati area coming out like this.

 We are in the process of transporting rough 60 generators to Ft. Worth, Texas to our staging area there. Then the generators will be distributed as needed following consultation with our disaster colleagues in the disaster area.

 The Bay Area is not prepared for its next major disaster. The painful lessons that emerged from recent disasters in the United States drive our passion to protect the Bay Area. The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina revealed the unthinkable cost in terms of lives and money of haphazard planning and irresolute leadership. Not putting ferries on the Bay for disaster recovery is like New Orleans not strengthening its levees, knowing a hurricane was coming. The threats to the Bay Area are well known and we must act urgently to avoid repeating this tragedy.

 You cannot help but be struck by the magnitude of this disaster, ... The American Red Cross is on the front line of this recovery effort. I'm grateful for the opportunity to help advance their mission and I appreciate the contributions from so many of our employees and their families. I'm hopeful this will help spur other donations from companies large and small. As a nation, this is a critical time to pull together and help this hard-hit region recover from this disaster.

 Because of the magnitude of this disaster, it would be very difficult to say.

 The magnitude and scope of this disaster are unprecedented.

 When you have a disaster of this magnitude, borders are immaterial.

 This area is just one more example of the failures of executive agencies tasked with disaster relief in responding to this greatest natural disaster ever to confront our nation,

 A disaster of this magnitude ... has never happened on this scale in U.S. history.
